Bought a Traxxas Rustler VXL to chase my dog around in the back yard. Needed more speed. Did no research. Put bigger tires and bigger battery, left gears the the same out of the box. Got more speed. Dog loved it. Burned up 3 controllers and two motors. Went back to hitting tennis balls. Dog loves that too. Cans of tennis balls much cheaper than parts for that buggy.

I have experienced over heating to the point I ended up replacing the Traxxas ESC to a castle set up on most of my Traxxas cars. Even the 1/16 scale cars suffer from this. I also add heat sinks and fans on everything. I no longer have any issues on any of my Traxxas cars over heating. I can now run any gearing I choose as well.

This video is superb! Could you please list the electronics and gearing you use please? Thanks!

I haven’t watch the full video cause I don’t have time, but I just want to say my Hoss has never gone into thermal shutdown with out-of-the-box gearing on a Traxxas 3S LiPO. And neither has the motor gotten hot enough for me to have to stop driving it to let it cool down. And for context, I live in an area that has pretty hot summers. I’ve run my Hoss in 85° temperatures with no overheating issues. Yes, the electronics get warm, but I’ve never had an issue with them getting too hot. I have put a heat sink and fan on the motor of the Hoss, which is what allows it to run cooler. In fact, it runs cool enough that I’ve even contemplated gearing it up from its stock 14-tooth pinion to a 16 or 17-tooth pinion to make it faster. Idk if you live in a really hot location or if you just drive them in a way that overheats the electronics or something, but I haven’t had problems yet

do you still have the same speed and torque with the new setup?? My rustler overheats constantly.. Even with fans and geared down on 3s.. I havent tried it on 2s batteries.. I wanted 3s for the speed an torque though.. ITS DUMB that traxxas says its 3s rated but then says optimal is 2s..

i have two models. Both same, same motor (Motor Velineon 540XL BL) instead the speedcontroler: VLX-3s and HPI FLUX ELH-6S (up to 6s). The difference in temp is huge. VLX-3s puts significantly more stress on the motor. But the performance is the same. I think the VLX-3s use a higher timing = hot very fast. And you can't change the timing in traxxas speedcontroller. In HPI Flux i can change the time like all chines ESC with programming card. Im not sure why traxxas configure the VLX-3s as it is but i recommend to change the ESC. The motor can't use the output. I can't find any infos about max current but i think not more than 130A for a 2400KV Motor. And the ESC pumps upto 200A to the motor=> the differenc is the heat.

So if I use my VXL4s esc inside the hoss with a 19 tooth pinion and 54 spur it should not overheat right because the max calls for hire during and it's the same motor and same ESC I'm just trying to make my hoss little faster to us it won't shut off 3s it keeps shutting down it will just go real slow after like 10 minutes in the cold to it's like 45° out
@3DemingoesRC
@3DemingoesRC Жыл бұрын
It going slow in the cold is probably because the LiPO’s are cold. A cold LiPO has less power.

Hey the lights you actually don't really need a balance plug you can plug them directly into the battery spot on the receiver and they'll turn on and off with the ESC that's how I have mine set up at first I wasn't sure if it would work I did a bunch of research come to find out that only breaks down the voltage to 3v so as long as you have 6v going into it they work fine

However if you're using automotive lights like I am in certain applications you have to use the balance plug and a 3s battery

@@BudKainer only on flat smooth wide open paved surface with the highest gearing possible on the Traxxas chart and no more than like four passes back and forth of like a 50 ft area kind of like drag racing. Then let it sit for a few and cool down

go hobbywing 2250kv Max 8 combo and go 6s with no issues in either the Maxx or Hoss

i have a traxxas slash 4x4 and it overheats with the velineon on 3s with 13 pinion. Even with using the slash original tires it still overheats, the motor has heatsink and fan and the ESC also. The motor is the one that overheats. I'm thinking of going with Sidewinder 8TH ESC and 2200 KV Brushless Motor Combo

Okay so here's the question I have how old is the truck how many packs do you think that you have run through it.. this can go both ways with a slash with the stock system if you have always set the gearing at 13 / 54 and it just started overheating you need to check the slipper clutch bearing that rides to the gateway to the center shaft and make sure that bearing is good but if it's a brand new truck the gearing should be 13 / 54 and you can do a lot of racing back and forth on smooth pavement but if you do a lot of off-road bash then you need to change it to 11 / 54 note also check for binding at Axel's and wheel nut hubs sometime debris get stuck between the pain and the washer free bearing if not at supplies than just scrap the system and do the same that I did to the stampede hossapede project right now I have a slash that has 2.8 monster tire four-by-four and the system is a spectrum 3200kv my pinion gear is a 15 and my spurs the 54 top speed right now is 51 on 3s

@@southtexasrcandbrbracing7139 bought it on feb this year. And packs, maybe 15 in those months, i try not to completely dry out the battery. There is no binding, i put steel rear axles like 3 days ago because the plastic originals broke and permanently twisted, the fronts are fine, there are no twist, I was using proline mx28 PRO1012510 and the grip on those broke my rear axles on gras.

with those tires is going to be 54 spur 11 pinion truck will push the upwards of about 36 mph or if you want more speed and durability you're going to have to change motor and ESC

I have a Traxxas Hoss I'm running a spectrum 120 amp smart ESC with the 2400kv stock Hoss motor and it gets hot pretty quick running on 4s I did have to make an adapter the adapter is 4 mm male to six-and-a-half MM female because the ESC wires are 4 MM female and the motor is 6 1/2 mm male is it okay to shorten the wires on the ESC side I know on the motor side that's a No-No cuz the wires are coated but can you shorten them on the ESC side thanks and when I looked up the ESC the motor that it should run is a 2400kv so that should be perfectly matched

@@martinbullla7654 for one thing your wiring is like trying to push water through a garden hose from a fire hydrant other than that which part is overheating ESC or motor what is your gearing that you're running I need to know spur and pinion are you running any fans and if so what size and also keeping consideration after I did testing that motor seems to be rated for 3 s by its power band

0:00 wow all this fucking shit I’ve been dealing with on this vxl 3s comes down to false advertisement 2s proven 3s if you want it to catch on fire I have a 2wd slash vxl 3s system 2.8 rxt gravix tires 272r trans things a monster but overheats on 3s all this time it’s because it can’t handle 3s buying the same setup as his guy got traxxas looks it spektrum moves it 😂
