Yeah, I didn't care much for the monster trucks either until I got a 2wd stampede and lived the wheelies and how well it handled jumps. I converted it to a slash 2wd and I got bored fast with that. Now I have a Stampede 4x4 and its easy my favorite truck, I just need to find the right motor for it, the VXL on 3s is way too hot.

I installed the slash sway bar kit on my stampede and it makes it handle so much better. And i only have the lighter bar on. I haven't tried the stiffer one yet

I will be bashing, off-roading and ramping a lot!!!!! What silicon oil do you suggest for the diffs the front and rear? Do you suggest thick oil??????

Donkey Commander bashing doesn't need thicker oil. It is all up your driving style. Thicker oil is more suitable for high tracking surface (pavement and clay) to help put down power better, lighter diff oil is generally good for low traction surface such loose dirt. If you use thick oil on low traction surface it will spin out easier.

Truly a killer! I'm looking to upgrade my motor from the cheap 12t. But lots of questions...I want more power and speed, but not so much speed that it pops wheelies. I want the speed of your stampede but I don't need it to have such fast acceleration. I want to be able to go up hills over rocks and loose dead leaves and loose dirt. Is there a system I can get w/ a motor that's more powerful and faster than the stock 12t but not quite as powerful as yours? I saw you recommended castle sv3 3800kv to another questioner. Is that a good system for me?

+David Rome it is sad to see viper goes out of business they made some of the best esc/motor out there. the next alternatively would the hobbywing wp8 esc. it is street price around $65 and it blows the socks out of the VXL system.

vxl are known to get hot and over heat easy..what is your gearing? HOBBYWING EZRUN 3656 3400KV motor with WP SC8 120A is a great combo alternative to castle options. but nowadays even hobbywing is getting expensive.

They are expensive indeed. Technically you only need a set for the rear and the front will last very good on stock plastic one.

+kyle deleyer Viper R/C really made some great products with great support, however I believe they went under now. The same ESC was from a ESC/Motor combo from a liquidator and I believe they all sold out now. The closest i can find on the net with this combo you can bid on and it comes with the 4pole motor. You needed RPM wheelie t-bone bar and rpm front bumper. They will save you a lot in rolls and tumbles!

i actually remove the wheelie bar it gets in the way of landing during high air back or front flips. the stock bumper works very well for me.

I got those same tires on my stampede the guy at the hobby shop sold me 2 sets both rear wheels he didn't have front tires so I'm rolling with all rear wheels does this matter or can I use them ?My motor also gets hot just running the nimh battery is this normal??

The rear wheels have narrower offset so the result is to cause the car to flip during cornering and the front tire will rub on body when it balloons. It's normal it gets hot and nothing to worry about. A cheap motor fan doesn't hurt tho. They are like few bucks on eBay.

Yeah the motor and the battery were really hot I'm kinda scared to run a lipo it might burst into flames!!!!

+Ben Pyka nimh always hot no matter what. If you just run 2s lipo no need for cooling fan. But irbid a must for 3s lipo. The hit motor is fine on 2s or nimh.

Do you splice that in to your servo lead or plug it into an open channel?

it all depend on how what you like to to with the truck. 3000kv to 3900kv is generally good for this truck. for the low cost you can look in to the rc gear shop 3900kv motor from tower hobbies..
