Naw it’s just the soft gears traxxas calls metal lol
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
@@Rckid28 Yea the metal Traxxas uses for the gears is soft but with shims + pressure + heat + grease = Long lasting Diff gears 👍
@Rckid283 жыл бұрын
@@edgargomez2207 that’s way to much work, gpm spiral cut gears for the win, and you have way too much grease in your diffs, your poor motor has to work so hard
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
@@Rckid28 Just simply not worth the price and cant beat the Traxxas Price on stock gears that can be fixed by installing 2 shims and some grease. Sure the motor will work hard during the brake in period. That's why you run the truck off the ground, no tires for a few minutes. All i know is that i beat the hell outa my truck and drive line with no issues with this trick. 🤷♂️

I see you pull out the rear diff input gear with a plier, what about front input gear? Can you still pull it out?
@edgargomez22072 жыл бұрын
Yes you can also pull the front pinion gear with a plier or a magnet.

axial ax31269 are the shims you want for the pinion. perfect fit and are steel
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion. Any type of metal shim will wear the plastic housing down and wont provide any cushion under load or impact. That's why I use the nylon shims that come stock in the front/rear diff housings.
@jamielevey8963 жыл бұрын
@@edgargomez2207 the metal shim rides right on the bearing race and on the pinion back. It touches no plastic. I just like the tighter cleaner tolerance.
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
@@jamielevey896 Yes you are correct. I thought you also put the shim on the ring gear as well. So basically metal shim on the pinion and the nylon on the ring gear. OK, Ill give it a try. Thank you ✌

Part number for the shims ? And the aluminum housing that you replaced from plastic to aluminum , not the hot racing cover
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
The shims are already inside the stock diff housings. The aluminum ones I used are the same part as the stock center diff housing.

That shim you have on the pinion isn’t doing anything but tearing up your housing. It needs to be between the bearing and the pinion or it’s pointless...
@edgargomez22073 жыл бұрын
Yes you are 90% correct sir...However the shim did not tear up the housing. I have Updated the Idea and will be posting a video correcting my mistake. I found that using copper shims that need to be fitted are the best solution. Its a whole prosses but so far its been worth the Time and effort into making the perfect size shim for YOUR application.

I have mixed opinions on how to lubricate the differentials . According to Traxxas, "Use a light coating of wheel bearing grease (from an auto parts store) on the metal gear teeth.". Light grease will fling off. When referencing oil viscosity charts, and calculating the velocity of the diff gears, they spin way too fast to use grease and should instead use oil which is going to leak out everywhere. Packing grease will reduce performance and increase heat. I have a Milwaukie angle girder that spins at high RPMs and comes from the factory with packed grease similar to the truck in this video. Here is a video showing grease being flung off the gear. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGHMhJJ5abGdf6c

Are you suggesting to use liquid grease like in your angle grinder video?
