Three-division world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete will defend his WBO junior lightweight world title against former two-division world champion Oscar Valdez in an all-Mexican duel Saturday, August 12 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Navarrete and Valdez seek to etch their names among the celebrated catalog of Mexican rivalries that includes Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales, Ruben Olivares-Chucho Castillo and Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez.
Navarrete-Valdez will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Diaz should never have taken that last set of punches. Shame on his cornermen, shame on the referee. It is sheer madness to gamble on a finished boxer making it through even a few seconds, just to avoid a KO loss. One punch on a tired, beaten boxer can cause irreparable harm, and one punch can take less than one second. I stopped boxing 51 years ago, and still wonder how the heck I got away with being so foolishly stubborn. Back then referees and cornermen just thought "You want some more, son? OK. You shall be served..." The narrative is that boxing has become more responsible now...
