At first glance the 14T305 looks about the same as the 14T304, but they're very different. The 14T305 has a 12-pin mic with squelch control, volume control, and up & down channel buttons on it, and none of those controls on the radio itself. God bless! (:

Great tip on the receiver Mike. Nice radio also. Can not tell you how many of these we sold back in the day.

Nice radios to. Like I said a good basic radio without to many unused features. The one it does have the dimmer is nice.

Wow, it is subtle but true this alignment. I was always told tune for maximum smoke.

Can't hurt to try. I am getting a CoPilot 14T302 which is a SSB version of this radio. Might that same "trick" of aligning that last point for "max SINAD" work on this one? Thank you much!

Does this CB have the PLL02A?

I just bought the 14T305 on ebay. I thought is was a sideband radio woops I dont know anything at all about this old radio. I only paid 15 dollars for it so it is worth that much easy. I would have left it the output turned up and just not said nothing LOL It is hard enough to talk very far on these cbs as it is. I really need a signal generator bad I cant do a receive alignment with out it. They cost too much gosh. I will put some new caps in the RCA radio and It will be fine Im sure or least Im hoping. Maybe I should send it to you for a receive alignment so I can do some super listening. I found that very good news it has that capability if you know how to tune the receive like you did.

Now that was a good tip, awesome job, thanks . Question, would it be possible to show the circuit schematic and discuss what part of the circuit these transformers were in and why this particular alignment sequence worked? Not necessarily for this video but for future videos. Keep up the good work.

Next time I get one with this chassis I can do that. In a nutshell the three that are normally adjusted in the PLL alignment are the transformers for the mixer circuits. In the majority of radios just peaking them for maximun RF is all that's needed. These chassis seem to be very touchy and peaking for max in the mixer circuit actually reduces receive sensitivity. What led me to find this was one day I was doing an alignment on a radio and like this one had taken before sensitivity measurements and noticed that after I got done the alignment receive sensitivity was worse than when I started. I had done a factory by the book alignment so that seemed rather strange. After some head scratching and looking over the schematic I thought what the heck, try fine tuning the mixer and walla receive sensitivity came back and then some. I get the feeling that's how the factory actually tuned them.

Hey Mike!! Faithful subscriber Norman in Montreal here, how are you doing brother? I hope all goes well for you! I just bought a very nice RCA-14T302 40ch-SSB radio 3 days ago. I would like to ask a question, if you don't mind! The modulation light lights up when on the AM band, but not on either sideband. Is this normal for this model radio? One more question(sorry!): might you have any idea why my 13.8 volt power supply puts out 26.8 volts? Good thing I checked first with my multimeter!! Safety and diligence first, kids!!!! Any answers you have for me would be appreciated SO much!! How might one get into contact with you about working on a radio? Do you have a website? Thank you in advance for ANY help that you could give me. Your humble & faithful subscriber, and a big fan of yours (mad skills!) Norman

In most radios the modulation light or modulation meter only works on AM. AM uses the audio amplifier where SSB does not. No high level audio amplification in SSB prevents using a audio power indicator. Many parts in the power supply could cause the problem. Just use normal troubleshooting procedures to diagnose it, it's a simple power supply design.

MikesRadioRepair: First of all, thank you VERY much for taking the time to answer my questions!! Is there a troubleshooting guide that I could consult to help me with the power supply? I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to checking caps, transistors and what have you. Is there a methodology to checking the power supply? I'm not asking you for a step by step, that would probably take too much of your valuable time. I'm just wondering if there is anything online to help me! Any ideas or suggestions would be so incredibly appreciated. Thank you again for your time!! It means so much to us less-abled people to have a master such as yourself to help and guide us(ME)!! Your faithful subscriber & fan, Norman.
