She personally said she was inspired by cat woman. She chose tails because of the way cats express themselves with their tails, u can tell when they’re playful or mad etc so that was her theme and concept. I can’t rmmbr what video I saw that interview from, I’ve watched so many sunmi vids now lmao

@@jvlixn I hear you - was trying to get the closest English word to make it easier to pronounce.
@sugartax23143 жыл бұрын
@@juliejulie1818 You're actually more correct, "Sun" is much closer to pronunciation than "Soon". Trying to get English speakers to pronounce her name like "Sohn" is incorrect. Her name is not pronounced like we would say "JOHN". If we're getting technical here, her name is really translated as "Seon -Mi". Her stage name Sunmi would be pronounced closer to "Sauhn Me" or "suhn me" or even "sawn me"

I seen a lot of different References from Batman returns from SUNMI! The one where She’s dangling out of the window and the guy is in the window drops her into the alley, And the cats are circling around her giving her part of the nine lives! She is wearing patent leather outfit not exactly similar to Michelle Pfeiffer but it references Batman returns! And she takes her revenge on the men who were cruel to her and killed her hence her tying him up to the railroad track she definitely represents a Selena Kyle😻❤️

Bang Bang the word you were looking for is Kitsune (nine-tailed fox)
@redrubyashes3 жыл бұрын

@ma-ri-ko3 жыл бұрын
The Japanese version of the nine-tailed fox is kitsune, as someone mentioned below. We have the inari as well, they're kiiiiiiind of associated, at least they share the same taste for seasoned fried tofu (which is actually why aburage wrapped sushi rice is called inari sushi). It's funny tho, there's sexual connotations with the nine-tailed fox in both cultures but in Japan they are more like trickster/seductive figures. Whether they lead to good luck or ruin kinda depends on the human they're interacting with. In Korean culture, they seem to be monsters like sirens or succubi. So there's all this wordplay that have to do with the specifically female, specifically dangerous sexuality around foxes (like the banmal/shortened word for "actress" is the same as "fox"). The Dramabeans blog had a really good rundown of Gumiho lore and context leading up the the k-drama My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, which I can't believe was 10 years ago now 😓 Anyways, I didn't make the connection between this vid and the gumiho, but it makes a lot of sense!

If I see Sohnmi, I don't know if it is supposed to rhyme with John or with Phone. But both are completely wrong and just saying the word "sun" is closer, so I think the Romanization is quite good.

@@MegaTenser funny enough John would be correct as they both have the EO sound. And the romanization was already revised once not too long ago. It could def use another tweak 🙂
