Amazing series, had a lot of fun making this Grant, thank you! I found out that if you scale up the whole scene (plane, chest, coins diamonds, everything!) the coins dont fly up so high! That with thecombination of increasing the friction on the plane and the bottom part of the chest. I hope you continue educating us all!

Leave it to bob ross, I mean Grant abbitt to calmly explain how to make stuff in blender with his soothing voice XD So the physics department was a hassle as u explained, I think I got a decent explosion tho. Did chance the coins collision shape to a square. that made the coins act less spinny. Just moved stuff around in the chest and tinkered with the friction and the explosion looked decent. great practice tutorial ^^

Funny enough, I thought you were going to shoot the coins out using a particle emitter. I just did a scene earlier this week of a CG dummy falling off of a pedestrian bridge and being hit by cars and motorcycles in the road outside my building. I created a rag doll model with rigid body physics and parented the bones of the human model to each section of the rag doll which was kept invisible, so it would look like a dummy rather than a stuntman. It was quite fun, I used some simple mockup objects with rigid body that I animated to match the cars in the video and timed the start so the dummy would land at just the right the moment. However, I also spent quite a bit of time inventing insults and swear words whenever the physics would go haywire and suddenly the rag doll fell apart , or suddenly started in a completely different position. I couldn't find a way to clear the cache in the timeline. Sometimes I could change something and then change it back and that would reset the simulation. Other times I saved the file and reverted which also cleared the cache. The end result was pretty funny, but it is a tough road, and not just for the CG dummy. Or am I the CG dummy?

Just signed up for your character creation course! This is ultimately what I want to use blender for, and I've been a long time follower of your channel. I'm beyond the beginner steps but I'm glad to support your endeavors and learn more about what I'm particularly interested in. Keep doing good things Grant.

This was actually a pretty cool tutorial. Agree that the physics in Blender leave a lot to be desired but it's workable nonetheless. I found that most of my success with getting the items to respond properly had more to do with adjusting the z height of the box at peak launch than anything else. Fun stuff Grant! Looking forward to the next installment. Cheers.

Thanks for the tutorial, this one wad quite scary to follow along as my results did not look at all like yours at first, but it turned out allright. I had nice result turning the friction for both the bottom of the chest and the plane to the maximum (it does not look very realistic because the coins feel very slow but i like it that way artistically speaking)

Thanks for this great tutorial. Sad to see that the series for the chest has come to an end, as I was expecting you to also color the chest, but at least that leaves the coloring up to our imagination. Still, gotta say that I loved the tutorial. Certainly my favorite up to now (I've done like 3). I'm not done yet, but thought I might just already say that

sorry about the translation. You have very cool and simple lessons and I have learned a lot. Thanks. But I've been puzzling over how to make text on an uneven surface for example on a flag for a week. I'm talking about a large text that would repeat its shape. If you do this lesson I will be happy

hi i really like your tutorial. but i got some problem and i don't know how to fix it. In the chest animation i added rotation when it jump. Everything is okay until i use Rigid Body to it. When i use Rigid body it didnt fall off like the coin it is rotating in the air and then it fall down (It means Chest body not the top part)

Around 10:45, I don't think the animation was actually updating when you moved the chest, right? You had the keyframes selected but didn't update the values with auto-keyframe or with "I" so every time you restarted the animation it seemed like the bottom of the chest was shooting upwards to the same height, only when you moved the keyframes to the right it actually slowed down due to the interpolation.

I've tried it a few times: increasethed friction of the box, and the coin drop improves. Or change the number of simulations.(My statement may be problematic because my English is not good)

11:30 Is there a way to run the physics sim and let any objects "settle" then use that final state as the starting point for the animation?

yes i think you can bake the whole thing then remove any key frames you dont want

My solution for the coins is to change the Collisions shape to box because with cylinder / convex hull the program will calculate the round edge that's why the coins were still moving. If anyone has better solution please let me know, especially the force for the coins and diamonds travel speed.
