The last time I tried this kind of adventure I got a knife stuck in my foot so I was a bit nervous about going into Amsterdam's canals again! Canadian here. The $1 coin has a loon on it, so it's a Loonie. The two dollar coin looks a lot like the 2 Euro coin with the two color inset. We call it a twoonie (or toonie) because loonie was a fun nickname and we're fun people so the trend continues. If we get a five dollar coin... I hope it has the moon on it so it can be a moonie.

You need an underwater "bucket" when you're in the water. If your current buckets fell into the water, you'd have to find all the stuff again. There are buckets designed to close to keep stuff inside.

They do make a minnow bucket that floats for freshwater fishing. It also has a spring-loaded door so you don't Bondi your found booty.

If you do it again maybe try a net with a wider mesh not too wide big enough to keep a wedding band inside but big enough to rinse through the sludge, maybe an old fish landing net..
