Thanks so much for this! I almost lost my beautiful pink minx to powdery mildew. It looks like yours right now, just a stick, basically. But if powdery mildew rears its ugly head again, I'll be ready! lol And if anyone needed it in approximate US MEASUREMENTS: 4.25 C water, 1 tsp neem, 1 tsp dish soap, 3/4 tsp baking soda. =)

Rain sounds great! Minnesota's going to have snow storms this weekend, with wind gusts making it feel "double-digits" below zero outside. 👀 The storms will "bless us" (sarcasm) with eight more inches of snow. 7°F this morning. 😱🕊 What had my ancestors been thinking when they'd moved here? ☃️☃️🤷‍♀️

Hey, I got one bit of info a little wrong, which was brought to my attention by @Its Minal: neem oil must be ingested by insects in order to affect their hormones and kill them. For this reason, it is not SUPER likely to harm pollinators since they are not eating the plants. However, one should avoid spraying neem oil directly on flowers which pollinators visit.

Neem oil smells bad, but it's a miracle worker! I've cured so much with it! My schefflera is fighting off recurring powdery mildew right now, but I'm worried it could or has passed to my begonia. My poor begonia is going through enough as it is with some serious legginess and an accidental case of too much neglect-I also just had to repot it, which I hope will help. If I can get it balanced, I'll probably prune and propagate, but I'm tryna arm myself against what might be inevitable. I think I've seen some on it, but it's not as aggressive as it is on my schefflera and previous Neem treatment kept it at bay.

Preventive defoliation is super important to prevent powdery mildew, it really helps to have good air flow by removing some of the lower leaves and anything that has a lot of PM on it. Also I hear there’s study’s that show neem oil can be toxic to reproductive systems in people. I hear if you use 30ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to start with and up it to 40ml or 50ml if needed. if it’s really bad maybe 60ml per gallon of water. Also it just smells clean vs the neem oil smell. I’ll definitely have to try the sodium bicarbonate with neem oil though for all my jades that keep getting pm. maybe it’ll keep me from having to buy the horticulture grade hydrogen peroxide

I don't have any begonias for that reason, but I enjoyed watching your video anyway.

So... with the skim milk.. is direct sunlight outside? Or can it be inside too? Also my begonia’s are showing signs of stress on leavetips, (one seems to be sick and the leaves just rot away) but no sign of the powdery stuff... can that still be powdery mildew? Thanks🌿

Indoor direct sunlight should suffice, I would imagine. Could be due to chlorine in the water, could be fungal, could be overwatering, could be the leaves staying wet for too long after a water. Hard to say. If you fear it's fungal, I'd treat with the neem oil mix or 4 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide in 4 cups of water.

Do you always have to cut off the leaves that have mold or can you wash them and then spray them with the solution without cutting off the mold leaves? (asking because my brand new Rex only have one leaf without mold on it)

lost my last begonia to powdery mildew. I couldn't find a way to treat. Maybe I will be brave enough to get another this year.
