Did you use the lime sulpher right out of the bottle or do of use it diluted with water? Tfs beautiful pice of deadwood.

I get mine thru pet supply places, typically on line. It’s way cheaper than the stuff labeled for bonsai. Same chemical just in greater quantities. I use it as a dormant spray in the winter months too, so larger quantities work well for this.

Is it possible to use lime sulfur and or make a deadwood feature on a blad cypress? I know cypress is considered softwood.

Here In hot dry Utah I just let it be. It naturally turns gray or white with the awesome crackling effect. The only thing I have to protect is beneath the soil line. In all my tanuki I use a product called black flex seal spray paint. I hope you find this helpful.

Problem with what you are saying is that a Japanese Maple is a hardwood not soft
