Treating Under Eye Dark Circles

Ive always had a little darkness under my eyes, which would fluctuate based on how much sleep I get. However, it wasnt terrible. Last month I had trauma to one eye, which has resulted in hemosiderin staining, and it looks horrible. I nownhave to wear make up, which I dont like. I've been doing some research, and it seems Co2 laser can help. I wonder if Dr. Prasad can help?

Hi @ts8024, Sorry to hear about your trauma. Hyperpigmentation after that type of injury is usually self-limiting, so I advise that you wait and observe how your appearance improves as you heal, and avoid excess sun exposure that can make the area darker, before you consider therapeutic intervention. @AmiyaPrasadMD thanks. It really bothers me to look at it, and I have to now wear make up, which I didn't before. I've read that hemosiderin staining can last more than a year, if not forever.

Doctor I am 19 year old, facing sever e hair fall, consulted doctor and he recommended minoxidil and finosteride topical solution. At the beginning i face lot of dizziness and hair fall. Is that normal?? Is the prescription proper?? Please I am loosing confidence 🙏

Hi @kerubarp9360, Hair shedding can happen when you start finasteride, and it is an ongoing issue with minoxidil as minoxidil delays hair shedding, so severe shedding can occur if you stop using minoxidil. I only prescribe oral finasteride, 1mg a day. You can talk to your doctor about a prescription for oral finasteride. Finasteride is a DHT-blocker, which is important for a male your age with early onset of pattern hair loss because of acute scalp DHT-sensitivity. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Since people have different interpretations of what dark circles are, as explained in the video, and treatment does depend on skin type, I hope you understand that I would have to perform a physical examination before recommending specific treatments for your case. Hi@@drdoom6405, Eye bags caused by prolapsed orbital fat cannot be treated with home remedies, or creams because there is no material that can safely pass through thin lower eyelid skin, then somehow melt fat. It is possible to camouflage slight cases of eye bags without surgery using injectable filler. I am 27, 2 months ago I had under eye fat grafting for reduce hollowness But it didn't work for me. I still have hollowness ,now also have puffiness under my eyes because it still swelling and looks like eye bags. Can you please tell me what should i do now?😢

Hi @farihajahanchowdhury, Sorry to hear about your problem. I have advocated against fat grafting in the lower eyelids because of the high risk of complications. If your original surgeon cannot remove the grafted fat, which is often the case, you do need to see an eyelid specialist (oculoplastic surgeon) like myself for removal of grafted fat. Your options for further treatment such injectable filler can be determined after the grafted fat is surgically removed. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi doc, So in my family nobody seems to have dark circles or any sclerel show however I have slightly dark circles and slightly baggy under eyes with some sclerel show mainly on my left eye, as I sleep on my right side, I am 19 so I don’t have funds for surgery but when I see pics from when I was younger I had no sclerel show, I do sleep late around 3am most nights but I still get 7 hours of sleep, is there any natural efforts I can take to fix this as I don’t have the funds yet for any procedures, thank you sir.

Hi @Champvik, Sorry to hear about your problem. I scleral show is not something you can treat on your own as it involves raising the lower eyelid, which is done through specialized surgery. I don't recommend eyelid surgery, or treatment for dark circles at your age as your face is still growing and maturing, and issues like dark circles can resolve on their own as your face continues to grow. As for scleral show, corrective surgery would also be better when your face is is more stable in your early 20s at the earliest. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi @SrujanGowda-88, Sorry to hear about your problem. I generally don’t recommend treatment at your age for dark circles as your face is still growing and maturing, and often these issues do correct themselves as your face continues to grow. When I say, “young people” in my videos, I do mean adults in their 20s and 30s. If you still have the problem when you are older, say when you are in your early 20s when your face has stopped growing, then treatment can be considered. I hope you understand.
