Welcome to our channel! In this video, we are excited to present a discussion with Dr. Tim Ayas, Psychiatrist at EHN Sandstone, Calgary. Dr. Ayas brings his expertise in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) to the forefront, shedding light on this significant medical condition that affects numerous aspects of individuals' lives.
Mental illness can impact anyone, regardless of age, education, income, or cultural background. However, systemic inequalities like racism, poverty, discrimination, and gender-based violence can exacerbate mental health issues, making access to mental health support crucial.
According to a Federal government study, MDD affects approximately 5.4% of Canadians, with anxiety disorders impacting 4.6% of the population. MDD, also known as clinical depression, can influence mood, behavior, and physical functions, including appetite and sleep.
Join us as Dr. Tim Ayas delves into the following learning objectives:
Define and understand Major Depressive Disorder.
Identify the impacts of MDD on mood, behavior, and physical functions.
Explore evidence-based treatment options for MDD.
