His name is William Campbell Shepherd, he is not Paul McCartney. There is a huge reason why Denny, who's real name is Brian Frederick Hines, was invited to join Wings. I could give you the answer now but I'll leave you to do your own homework. About ten years research is all you'll need. Roughly. Penny Lane-Denny Laine.

EM I mean Silly Love songs was the ranked the best song of 1976 by Billboard. Mull of Kintyre was the best selling single in the UK on its release and is the 4th best to this day. The band had 6 number ones and 14 top tens in the US and 1 top ten in the UK with 12 top tens. They won 6 Grammies and have sold millions of record world wide. Plus they had the honour of doing a James Bond song. Wings were not as big as the Beatles but that doesn’t mean their weren’t massive
@davidsanderson59184 жыл бұрын
@@oliverfield877 Much of that might be true.....but I remember it well. Everyone might have had a copy of the Band On The Run LP and Silly Love Songs in the house but absolutely NO ONE would say Wings was one of their favourite bands. The whole draw of Wings, despite what anyone says about Denny or the brass section or how good Venus And Mars was or anything else, was that music was still being made by an ex-Beatle. Wings themselves weren't massive in people's reckoning of major musical acts. Nor were Abba....or David Cassidy....or Bay City Rollers ....or David Soul....or any others that dominated the charts and played massive gigs. Just didn't work like that. It's like saying Westlife are one of the biggest acts in history because they had about 10 consecutive No.1s or whatever it was. Or that Bananarama were on a par with The Supremes! What the history books say is not the same as what the people say.

I think it is a giant oversight that Wings isn’t inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. I understand that McCartney is in there twice already as a Beatle and solo, and I haven’t checked but Denny Laine might be in for the Moody Blues, but not as Wings. Fact is, if Wings had the kind of career they did and the members weren’t already known quantities, they would have already been inducted. It was McCartney and Laine, with whatever established musicians were available at any one time. I don't know whether McCartney lost his creativity with the Beatles bust-up, or whether his stream of inane commercial 'pop' simply underlines the notion that Lennon was the power behind The Beatles after all.

@@bingola45 I find your comments here very interesting. Paul's creativity definitely deserted him when The Beatles broke up. He could not sustain the level he was on when in The Beatles. I don't understand the deeper dynamics but he definitely needed John Lennon to fulfill his potential. I question if Paul would have ever created his best Beatle songs were he not with John. In fact I don't think he would have. I don't think we would have Hey Jude, for example, were he not with John. John lifted Paul. Paul needed him. I agree with you the Band On The Run album is not anywhere near as good as some believe it to be. I think people can lose objectivity because of fondness for The Beatles. I cannot remember all the details now, but it included stuff like the band sleeping in really poor accommodation on Paul's farm, how mean Paul was etc etc. What possessed Denny to write those articles at the time I do not know - maybe he and Paul had a big argument and Denny thought "screw you". After doing something like that, Denny lost all chances of ever working with Paul again: Paul must have felt that a huge betrayal of trust. Sad really, since together in Wings they achieved some great things. With the Tug of War and Pipes of Peace re-issues out now I am amazed how many sessions Denny was involved with - on so many of the photos from those sessions Denny is there in the background and on the tracks.I always saw those albums as Paul+George Martin+guests and I had forgotten how much Denny was actually involved in those sessions. Seems like the greatest bands consist of two members who work together. This is just another example of it. It's amazing that this happened twice for McCartney. First with Lennon, then Laine.

I saw Wings in Bristol in Sep 1975 great show, bands would play for an hour or hour and a half with another band going on first, But Paul and Wings played for three hours with a free program on the seat. great night. I remember the band walking off stage and Paul seating down with a guitar and doing Blackbird and Yesterday on this own.

Laine quit Wings on April 27, 1981, due to Sir Paul's reluctance to go on tour so soon after John Lennon's untimely murder. Though Laine and McCartney are still on friendly terms, they haven't participated together in the years since due to what Laine believes was low compensation for his involvement in Wings during its 1971-79 existence.

Denny Lane you are actually 1/3 of Wings Success! I just read Little Wing, Jimmy's bioography! I was 13 in 1975. Whoa! Band On The Run...Summers in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Just a great group with some spunk to show for it. You play so well with Paul and your a multi- dimensional player. Your great! Paul picked the right bookend to his wishes! Wings is some of the best songs of an entire span of Baby Boomers! Check out Radio Station 101.7 FM The Drive, Paul is every other 7th song in rotation! I think you would love it. It's all the songs I grew up with in High School Art Classes! That's were I live even to this day, is your songs and my teenage imagination. Brilliant ❤️ ✌️

The "Wings Over America" tour in 1976 really was to promote the band Wings. Most people in the audience however came to see an ex-Beatle do Beatle songs. While it WAS a great show, of the 25 songs performed, only 6 were Beatle ones. Today, it's the exact opposite. Paul gives the audience a Beatles show with only a few of his solo works included.

Denny Laine great guy. I met his daughter Heidi once. Great kid. Wings was Pauls' last band identity. After that its been Paul McCartney-often with the same musicians but not with a band name. So Denny can be proud of being part of Maccas' last actual band. His contribution was faultless.

Paul & Wings should be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Because they have had successive #1 albums (Red Rose Speedway, Band on the run, Venus & Mars, Wings at the Speed of Sound, Wings over America) & #1 singles - My Love, Live & Let Die, Band on the Run, Jet, Listen what the man said, Silly Love Songs etc. Wings even dominated live concerts rivaling Led Zep.

I think Wings ended at the right time. They changed drummers three times, the changed lead guitarists three times. They went out on a decent album (London Town). It was good that they never made it into the 80's where it wouldn't have been the same. Denny's role was always greatly overlooked but Wings would not be the same without him. I'm sure Paul knew that. This quote from Wiki says everything you need to know. "Wings had 12 top 10 singles (including one number 1) in the UK and 14 top 10 singles (including six number 1's) in the US. All 23 singles released by Wings reached the US top 40, and one double-sided single, "Junior's Farm"/"Sally G", reached the top 40 with each side. Of the nine albums released by Wings, all went top 10 in either the UK or the US, with five consecutive albums topping the US charts."
@pelgervampireduck6 жыл бұрын
the last album was "back to the egg", not london town. and both are horrible, the last good album was "wings over america". and the next good album by paul was "flowers in the dirt" in 1989!. 13 years of horrible albums!.

Interesting,when he mentioned the McCartney drug bust in Japan "throwing a spanner in the works",I'd never actually heard that expression before(being American),so I was never aware all these years that the title for the Lennon book "A Spaniard in the Works" was obviously a play on words of that expression.Looking it up now I find out that a spanner is the British equivalent to what we would call a monkey wrench here.Learn something new all the time.

Paul gave him co-writing credit on a ton of Wings songs and so he'll have made millions from Wings, I'm sure. They had several top ten albums and singles in every country on earth. Also, Paul signed a much better publishing deal for Wings than he had with The Beatles as every company were desperate to sign him. I googles an estimate of $10 million current networth and I'm sure he keeps getting checks from Wings.
