Managing Our Changing Forests Webinar Series
March 01, 2018
Presenter: Amanda Bunce, Graduate Assistant Researcher, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, UCONN
Biomechanics of trees is the study of their structure and movement. In this webinar presentation, we are going to talk about how trees move, particularly in response to the force of wind. We will cover both tree sway and the longer-term developmental responses to wind exposure, as well as the various mechanisms by which trees remain standing in storm conditions. We will wrap up talking about how biomechanics can apply to forestry and arboriculture, and share an overview of a forest management project taking place at University of Connecticut.
