Landscapers and gardeners refer to Eucalyptus trees as “widow-makers”

G.G. Park is all sand just not very deep of topsoil. -And eucalyptus are oily, and burn like the Oakland hills did back in the 90s.

Eucalyptus trees have very shallow root systems. That’s why they are falling. They are very heavy. I have one in my yard thsts showing signs of falling.

the trees were indeed planted for lumber but the grain made it split when dried so we have all these trees that need to be cut down.

Think of a tree as a lever from high school physics. The taller the tree, the greater the force on the pivot point (the weakest part of the structure). Try holding a somewhat short, say 2x4 board, vertically with one hand. Then try the same with a significantly longer board. Feel the difference in the force the board exerts on your hand. Try starting with the board out of plumb. Notice the force the muscles in your hand must start with extra resistance applied to the leaning board. This factor is the most fundamental, yet most frequently disregarded in tree stability assessments. So if a tree is tall and/or leaning, any force applied by gravity or wind will be disproportionate at the pivot point. Add any compromise of the tree's resistance (structural strength) brings the structure closer to failure, requiring less force for the structure to "go critical" and fail. Most of the tree failures I have observed have been due to human error, not God or Nature. Asymmetrical loading, such as more branches on one side, also can be a factor. Branch or root removal for administrative reasons like utilities can alter the equation and contribute to premature tree loss, not to mention and other life and property.

The entirety of GG Park is on maybe 5 feet or topsoil and the rest is literally sand dunes. It was planted by a rich dude and absolutely torn to pieces by a lazy and ignorant Parks and Rec department and the homeless living in the park. Sad because the park is beautiful and would be more so with investment.

Incorrect , these trees are old and die at this age.
