Diane I love it it made me think of Beatrix Potter and her stories and paintings were adorable and sometimes she would do similar to the frog and dragon fly. I absolutely adore it , I thank you for inspiring me even more than my imagination is making which I pray I live long enough to complete at 67 years ah young cough lol I started this year on changing from oils to water and goodness I have not the same capabilities. But with your work your showing me a better way than I thought I knew , Not ! I love learning from you and I’ve stopped exspecting myself to be A Great masters to many I did have perfection in mind when I began I was sketching very well at a young age and wasn’t painting until the 80s and I did well but as most self taught I was never good enough to suit myself. Anyway I’m here to learn and have fun and I so enjoy your style and I thank you yes I have thought s that are in another place and I just change up and do something else lol Diane thankful for you teaching me and all the others . Love your work!

Hi Sharon, lovely to hear from you and a bit of your story. You're the same age as me and it's definitely never too late to change and to do something meaningful. My best advice would be the thing I've never managed to do myself, which is to stop judging your own work by other people's standards! Just paint, let it dry and then paint something else! Preferably give your work away if anyone will have it! Anyway, when I'm painting I am in a different place with fewer things to worry about, and that's the main thing nowadays. Don't you think so? Have fun, above all, and keep painting!

I am leaning to sketch and followed along as you drew your frog and I quite pleased with my 1st try at it. In trying out different pencils I have I got wiped out the highlight in the eye. I will go back with a white gel pen. This actually was practice on typing paper. I'll do several more practices to help me learn how to use my pencils and draw better. Thanks Diane for all your tutorials.

Welcome to the studio Ruth and I'm so glad you found us. If you can get hold of some 'cartridge' or 'sketch' paper you'll be much happier with your results. Here's a link to the sort of paper that doesn't cost much but will be better to learn to draw on. amzn.to/3LgUkfy

Hi Marcia, so funny, it's spelt QUINACRIDONE GOLD and here's a link to it on Amazon! amzn.to/3NQgQ0Q It's the Winsor and Newton one, which is what I prefer to use, as it is not so orangey as the Daniel Smith one.

If your watercolour pencils are a japanese brand, that might explain the blue being called green. Historically, the japanese language only had one word for blue and green. Both were called ao. They do, now, have a separate word for green, but it doesn't always get used, and so ao meaning blue will get translated to say green... So it's very possible that it's a translation thing. Just.. if it is made in japan! :D
