Just seeing this in 2022... those hung up trees are the worst. I spent a month in Baltimore Shock Trauma 7 years ago when I had one twist and fall 90 degrees from where it was leaning. It happened so fast it hit me in the face breaking my neck and every bone in my face. Lesson learned. Thanks for posting.

I did something like this on an old dead brittle ash tree, and all the stress on it split a big chunk down from the face cut to the bottom of the stump. I suppose it was technically a barber chair, but it still fell nice enough away from the house.

@bradlloyd3585 жыл бұрын
Ok that was pretty cool with the back cut first - why would it have been difficult cutting the tree the standard way - that is back cut last? And I must say that was tense - like I was stressing here watching it - lol
@jeffreyrubish3475 жыл бұрын
Felling against the lean, if you face cut first there's nothing to prevent it setting back and pinching the bar on the back cut. Back cut first, set wedges then face cut it.

Ok that makes sense - thks for the reply

doing the back cut first and the top of the notch could have created a snap cut if you would have cut too far in to those cuts. And if you would have messed up on your notch then you wouldnt been able to tweak it because of your back cut already being there. Its always better to cut your notch first and leave your hinge wood too large and then widdle away at that.

Cool beans Buckin ! Pinching the bar is no fun at all - get the logic of why ya did what ya did ... out here in wny we have a lot of EAB infested ash that grows straight -up like a popsicle ... if the crown is leaning toward the direction of fall we gotta “tie” (with 3inch heavy - duty ratcheting straps) above the cut in case Mr. Barber comes a calling ... If crown (weight) is neutral or away from direction of fall we like to shoot a line up as high as we can and use 3ton come-along to an anchor point and crank the bull-rope taut ... EAB ash is purty easy to split - can just about drop the axe on it and beerwhoop she splits ! Thanks for the vid ... learned another “gem” for the trick-bag today ! Peace out ✌️

@briankearsey18364 жыл бұрын
@@alabastardmasterson Safety Nazis for asking a polite question that could very well save the life or limb of someone reading these comments? Really? As I point out in another comment, it looks like he may have his left foot on a downed branch at 1:50 in while cutting, and then he puts his running saw down and then has step over it when the tree starts to move - he could easily have tripped.

I was a little worried that the wedges were going to pop out of the back cut on the leaner when it started to tilt forward, causing the tree to drift towards the house. Nice work!
@t.texasty5 жыл бұрын
Back-cut first works slick, especially on small timber where there's no room for wedges behind your bar. You musta scooted that top forward 8 or 10 ft with that lift eh? Those K&H wedges make that nice loud 'pop' when they're loaded up, you know you're in for a good time :)

watching you put in that bottom cut and then the top cut was riveting I was on the edge of my seat for a minute there; the camera was not showing me how close you were to your backcut; got to be so careful and precise in that notch; everything has to line up and you cannot take too big a bite; and hingewood on that lower side yes; but hey you know that; your viewers just watched a '"don't try this at home" moment; loved it; very exciting; all the best

Chunking hung up trees like that is never fun but it’s something you just have to do from time to time. Wedging that leaner made me think back to the video when you used about 20 wedges to take that goofy leaning for down beside a house. Good work buckin and Hogan! Love to you and the family❤️
