Tree of Heaven: A slow-growing menace

It’s called the Tree of Heaven, but most people think it comes from the opposite place.

One time, we planted what we thought were tomato seeds, not knowing anything about gardening or anything we didn't think to look up what the seeds look like, since we bought them from the store and trusted it. They ended all being the tree of heaven, and we removed and killed them quickly after finding out. Now all of a sudden they sprout out every where by our pond. We didn't even plant these suckers in the dirt by our pond but a planter box, across the yard. I'm thinking since we have so many birds, they picked the seeds up and dropped them. They are an absolute menace. Just today I pulled up 12 sprouts. And slow growing? These fuckers grow FAST.

oh dude, the roots have taken hold underground and they're sprouting up using your pond water. Cutting down the trees is not the way to kill it, you need to remove or kill EVERY BIT or the root or it will continue budding and growing sprouts outwards and upwards

Use herbicides on the tree stumps, and just pull the small ones out of the soil.

how did you kill them if you cut them down then they will regrow but in huge bunches because if the tree dies it sends signals to the roots and it sprouts like 20 from one dead tree the way to kill it is to poison it by making a cut in the tree and spraying herbicide into it

Anyone trying to get rid of this tree needs to know if you cut it and don't get the roots, it will come back stronger than before. You need industrial strength weed killer and multiple soakings.

The single pour steel reinforced monolithic concrete foundation should have been made mandatory nationwide so as to compensate for tree roots like the tree of heaven. But contractors as usual wants to make more money at the expense of the homeowners!

That tree was there when he purchased or received the property and the insurance company should have known. I would argue that this is on the 8nsyrance due to their negligence in allowing the home to be built with that tree there.

Trees damaging one's home should be regarded as legitimate for removal once the the land owner has been informed. Any disputes on the damage caused by the tree should be fast tracked via compulsory arbitration .

Yes those trees are a huge menace! And they sprout up everywhere around Portland. left alone they grow very quickly into a tree. You have to be on top of things and pull them up and remove them right away.

Haven't they made it mandatory to have all houses being built during the mid-1940s and on to use the steel-reinforced monolithic foundation which is a single pour foundation that has an underground wall 5 to 7 or 8 feet deep and 12 inches thick and the top foundation floor is 12 inches thick also. And has steel rebar reinforcement 1 inch thick, 12 inches apart from center point to center point AND THEN THE CONCRETE IS POURED CONTINUOUSLY NON-STOP to create a single poured foundation?
