The Torah, I discovered, is not a book of history or religion, but the very blueprint of reality. The mystics teach that before the world was created, there was the Endless Light, an infinite abode of divine consciousness that actively sustains the totality of creation. The souls of Israel, originating from this divine Light, were dispatched into the "void" to prepare the lowest world (this world) for the World to Come.
