I wanted to be loved cause I was great. A big man. I'm nothing. Look at the glory around us Trees and birds I lived in shame I dishonored it all and didn't notice the glory A foolish man

Arguably the best scene to come out of contemporary cinema… so profound, relatable, and beautiful :’(

The scene where Mr. O’Brien is forced to transfer and the family has to move has always been my favorite scene in the movie (but them falling in love and starting their family is pretty fucking beautiful) - anyway, something he says that always gets me, speaking to young Jack: “It was about all I’ve done in life, otherwise I’ve drawn a zilch. You’re all I have, you’re all I want to have.” For his character, a firm man with such pride, to admit to his young son that he’s done and got nothing in life - man, that’s powerful. Edited for typos

From the character Markel, Father Zosimas brother in the brothers Karamazov whom was atheist, until he fell ill to his death bed. And repented to the world and the almighty, then spake this beautiful quote. Such a tragic and beautiful story. In the trailer, O’Brien quotes Mermeladov from crime and punishment as well “one day we will all fall down, and we will understand all things, and all things we will understand” Ole Terrance is one Intertextualized dude

I wanted to be loved because I'm great. I'm nothing." Image having to admit something like that to yourself let alone your wife and kids.

Funny I think he didn’t. Either we are in the father’s thoughts or the son is only imagining his father’s thoughts.

I was fired from a job after 27 years, I rarely took a sick day, often worked overtime without getting paid for it. One day they let me go as they changed a program and brought in new people. No severance pay either. It’s rough but after some time, I found a job paying me much less but closer to home and I feel appreciated. I also went through divorce and bankruptcy in my past. I pushed through it but I do know the feeling of worthlessness and despair. You’ll bounce back. Make a plan. Chase it. Be strong, brother. Good times are ahead.

The expectations can be so high. And who can ever live up to them? Life is a challenge for most people that has to be met head-on, with the best effort. Still, one must remember to be kind to oneself and to others.
