I think part of the reason why he didn't get as popular is due to him removing most of his content from the internet around 2014-2015 though I assume the reason why he did so was so he could develop his new character as Oliver Tree/Turbo to kinda hide his real past so he could recreate a new past for his new character

Been stuck on this entire album a few years, Old Tree appeals to those with a taste for layered music, while new tree is basically justa fast cash machine so he can continue his work unhindered by contracts and stipulations. The information hidden in the riddles is the best part of his old music, funniest thing about it is if you follow close enough and listen, everything he says has multiple meanings, and even though he has switched overall on his sound, he has never quit dropping crumbs for his loyal fanbase
