Love this. No nonsense hunting. Bare bones, git 'er done approach, just how I like it. I'm a long time climber stand hunter but my 1st Gen Lone Wolf's are getting dangerous (not all bolts can be replaced and I've had them shear off on me during a climb). I don't like the newer traction belt models and I absolutely hate any other climber stands. Decided to buy 2 different Summit stands and hate them both. Anyway, I'm looking to make the switch to hang-on stands at the ripe age of 55. You definitely help my confidence that I can make the transition. Can't believe I'm just finding your channel. If all your vids are like this, I'll binge and subscribe! Thanks for sharing!

If you are at least 6 feet tall. I think I would go with the Xop. It seems to have a slightly higher seat height than the lone wolf stands. And it really doesn't weigh that much more. Now if your 5' 9" like me, definitely save up and get the LW or the Novix. It'll make sitting down so more enjoyable. If you only stand up when you hunt, than I see no reason not to go with XoP.

Never knew about chanferring (sp?) but that makes total sense. You can do that on any batwing and platform right? That might help me to get the stand to set better. When I practice, the batwing is seated but sometimes there is a little gap. That could be because I'm not high enough on the stick and stomping DOWN on the platform. I feel better using two straps on the stand also. I'm a petite hunter so I need every advantage that I can get to using 2 sticks. It never dawned on me that I could set the first stick as high as I could and climb up the tree while grabbing onto the stick to get to my aider. (I'm 5'2" so getting the first stick high is a challenge with my little arms :)) I'm gonna keep practicing and give those few tips a try. I may decide to do some filing of the teeth and see what that brings.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 жыл бұрын
The chamfer gulps tremendously. And you don't need to chamfer much. Just 5 or 8 licks with a file to remove the hard point. You can always chamfer more later if needed. But just knock the point off. As long as you have cover 2 sticks is all you need. I hunt a couple dozen times a year being only 1 or 2 sticks high. As long as you have cover you are good to go!
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
I’d be careful taking a file to your platform as you’re looking at voiding your warranty if anything were to happen. Or if you were just not happy with your results. I’d start off with the antler bracket. That’s a cheap $25 replacement woops. The platform is all your money. Just a little honesty on that.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 жыл бұрын
@@michigangrownoutdoors7254 what part of a platform would ever need warranty? And only doing the bat wing or antler bracket does nothing. It's all or nothing. You can't do one and not the other or it won't slide. It's your choice. But for me and the last 15 years of doing the chamfer no way I would ever go back to that unsafe and horrible method of toe hooking. If anything should void a warranty it should be tow hooking! I will 100% stick to my chamfer method and a simple quick stomp before I get in the stand.
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
I agree that altering the antler bracket or top bracket does help with setting the stand a ton… but my worry with altering the platform does void the warranty… for the price of this stand that’s super notable. Honestly for the price I should t have to take a file to it imo. I can get into a novix stand and not have that worry… But super good point and tip. Just wouldn’t be telling guys to void warranty with the platform mods. At least with the. Racket you can spend $25 and get a new one. Cheap woops replacement. lol
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 жыл бұрын
It's an all or nothing deal. Chamfering only the top bracket does nothing. Need to do the platform too. And 1. Should not void any warranty and 2 a platform should never need warranty anyway. It's a hung or metal with no moving parts or anything to go wrong.
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
Yea in theory nothing should go wrong. But I would think any time you alter the construction of a product you’re looking at voiding a warranty. You’re telling me if I grinder or filed down on that back bracket which led it to break (say I’m just dumb and have no self control) lol and it breaks in the tree. They will replace that? How would it not void warranty?
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
I also angled my top bracket… helped big time when toe hooking as needed or even just a cam lock from the side off my sticks. You’re angling platform when you do that so it’s already not. Biting at the base. Idk when spending $625 I’d think I shouldn’t need to file my stand away.
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
Just looked at warranty and return policies… it specifies damaged items for refunds and even if it doesn’t have its original box… and a 20 day limit on refunds… from purchase date. And you can only warranty something if you purchased from hunting beast. No 3rd party purchase.
@michigangrownoutdoors7254
@michigangrownoutdoors7254 2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention when messaging the company when I had this stand, I asked about altering the platform and if they would still warranty it, they said no. So I also have those emails if you wanted to see.

He came to the tree, nose first went all the way around the tree, got to my open pack, and practically stuck his nose in it then jumped about 6ft back trotted away and was frantically looking around trying to find me.
