Supposedly dogwood was used to make large wooden splitting wedges, called a "glut", for splitting logs into rived boards back in the day due to it being so hard. Thanks for the video!

Yeah i also dislike landscape trees that just take up space and don't contribute to native insects and birds. I love native trees for this reason!

Any idea on the lifespan? We bought a house that has 2, it seems the one has died and the other not doing so well, they look rather old and I believe they were there for quite some time.

What comes out of the stems first the leaf or the flower? I have one and it's 3 years old and all that comes out is just green leaf every year.

Flowering dogwood starts to bloom when it's around 5 to 7 years old, so you may have to wait a few more years to start to see flowers.

Dogwood does not split and it's very heavy intense it makes great mallets the head of a mallet for wood carving can be made of Dogwood
