I must say, I think this video has the best explaining of tree house construction that I have seen. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned the importance of the structure being able to move with the tree that it is attached to. I have definitely learned something from your video. Slightly helpful, I am looking at building very high up, I have several groves of second growth redwood in amazing ferry rings. 4-8 trees per ring in close proximity to the original compound.

Great video really pointed out easily overlooked issues. Where can I learn more about the UMHW? I feel like that would change the height you mount you second hole at to keep platform level. Also, I see how this protects the front and back movement but would it also protect the left right Movement? Well thanks again can’t wait to start this project for the kids

Thanks! I’d recommend you start with Pete Nelsons treehouse book. It really explains a lot of these concepts in more detail. I purchased my UMHW from treehouses.com. You can probably find it cheaper though elsewhere online. With this design the treehouse can move in all directions in the horizontal plane. You just have to make sure you allow enough room for that movement because it will definitely move during windy storms. Your kids will love it. All the best!

JJCoolStuff one more quick question with the UHMW did you fasten it to the top of the beam or the bottom of the floor joist. Someone even recommended attaching two pieces so it’s UHMW on UHMW but that seems like it may be over kill. Thanks for the quick response!

I attached it to the bottom of the floor joists and didn’t put any on top of the beams. I don’t think two pieces is needed but it wouldn’t hurt! Just be sure to use a long enough strip so that if the trees move a lot during a big storm it won’t slide all the way off the UMHW.

Hello. I watched all four videos and they are awesome! I am planning a very similar treehouse in two trees. I have a few questions. 1. What are the dimensions of your platform? 2. How did you know what size beams and joists to use? Thank you again.

I believe the full dimensions are 10x16. The best way to play it safe on the beams is to higher an engineer to do the load calculations and use span charts to determine joist size and spacing. However, I referenced the span tables to get a general idea and then built mine slightly stronger to err on the side of caution. Instead of paying an engineer I took the extra money that would have cost and bought thicker joists. You have to do what you’re comfortable with.
