This video is for all the people who still think us Chinese casually bow like this like in the movies 😂 It's like a super serious gesture and considered by some, very old school - especially if you bow so low like that. Think the most I've seen is a slight dip with hands held together.

I remember when i was a student in Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai Campus in 2019. I was going to near by city on bus and my cellphone was not working because usually you've to pay 1 RMB for a bus ride which is nothing, it took me i guess 10 mins on bus but still my cellphone was not responding as i was having no cash on hands, two girls approach towards me and they pay my bus ticket, i was so happy the way Chinese people show generosity towards everyone. I still remember them and always praying for those girls who helped me there. Stay Blessed girls. long Live China -Pakistan Friendship

@@sakurakou2009 no worries, I'm glad you understand now and cared to ask 😊 I guess as an overseas Asian I can be sensitive to it because a lot of people deliberately don't care to learn 😅 I don't think we really shake hands either unless it's like a business deal. If it's a casual situation like someone giving you directions a verbal thanks will suffice, or even a thumbs up haha. I mean some of us don't even say hi or hello anymore, we simply ask what the person is up to. So like we're pretty laid back? If it's an elder or someone high up or a serious situation then I think a small bow is still ok.

In China, bowing is a more prudent thing. bowing can not bow casually, generally bow to show respect. now the Chinese people, generally only in ancestor worship or extremely serious occasions bow,like wedding bowing to your parents or for your never seen teacher or something like this . It's more usually a nod for thanks in the normal day. Ancient China did have the etiquette of bowing, even more Complex and more express More emphasis on class identity. But now the Chinese people, will not keep these etiquette. Because we think it is the ancient hierarchical suppression of etiquette, and we are equal people, in the face of ordinary people, such etiquette is not that good. Because the ancient Chinese etiquette requirements cumbersome. There is a Chinese word " cumbersome etiquette ", which means unnecessary etiquette, not from the heart of the etiquette is not necessary to do. If your bow can be done at any time, it loses its importance and becomes formal and cheap.

1:56 is my favorite, she was so rude in the way she answered him, didn't even bother looking away from her phone, but the moment he did the full bow her entire attitude changed. His humbleness made her realize she was helping someone that asked for nothing else than 5 seconds of her attention and she couldn't even give him that properly. That was a nice wake up call for her. Be kind, people! Your phone isn't going anywhere, it's okay to look away from it sometimes!

@@ikira6070 It's called basic human decency? Sorry, i just HAVE to be reading this wrong right now. Do you seriously think she's on the right for not taking 5 seconds off her time to look at someone when talking to them? Not even for a moment? She just kept looking at her phone as if he wasn't worth acknowledging. That's rude, no matter how you look at it. And no, she doesn't have an "obligation" to help, if she didn't know the answer she could just say "sorry, i don't know where that is" and they both move on. But if she knows how to help, if she has the answer to his question, what's stopping her from taking her eyes off her phone for just a few seconds and help out? That's called being a decent human being. You could even use the excuse that she's shy, but even so, I'm also a very shy person, but even i know that staring at my phone while talking to someone is a very rude thing to do. Even if you can't make eye contact, you should either look at their forehead, or their hands or even their feet, anywhere, but you look at THEM to show that you're listening to what they're saying and paying attention. You don't look at your phone, it makes you seem like you don't care that they're even there. Respect generates respect, man. It's not a matter of obligation, it's a matter of being a decent person. I'm taught that from a young age. It's never too late for you to learn that, too.

@@sigma--boss7098 I respect you have really good sense of decency and I also hope I can be the one with really good manner as I want people know My respect to them . I am not intent to deny all the things your said, I just don’t wanna be too strict to the girl, because she did something nice (helped the boy) which is need to be encouraged (I think that's the purpose the KZbin channel was created for) , we are the people who watching the video online and we don’t really know what really happened at that moment what was the girl doing. So I will not easily to criticize her manner and attitude. Of course if she could look away from her phone and show her respect to the boy it will be realllly nice. that's only my own opinion, It is not mature enough and I cant logically express my opinion, so I will leave this for people to discuss. In actual fact, bowing, meaning simply hunching your back was NEVER a thing for China, not even during ancient times Because in China we would have a hand gesture called Zuo Yi that you must do WHILE you're bowing For men, the Zuo Yi gesture is your arms stretched strait with 2 open palms facing towards you and the back of the hand towards the other person And with your LEFT hand in front of your RIGHT, because the right hand is the one you use to hold a weapon, and means you mean no harm For Women, it's similar to European courtesy, where you place your hands to the right of your right hip and bend your knee a little as you greet. In Chinese martial arts, most people know the fist salute where the right hand forms a fist and left hand with opened palm on top of the right.

I dont know if this would sound derogatory to other culture and to my fellow filipinos but I wish we have this bowing to show respect and gratefulness culture in philippines... It's just so pure and shows someone's sincerenest, and because nowadays people are although grateful or is respectful we can't really show it because we don't have a way of showing it, you can't always "mano" the elderly unless you want to offend him/her, and of course you can never kiss the hand of a person your age unless you want to look like some weird sht🤔🤭
@s___akura
@s___akura 2 жыл бұрын
there are different asian cultures, some would be bowing and some would do mano which is similar to the salim gesture and each gesture may have deep meanings behind it and every gesture of respect or asking for forgiveness etc from different cultures are nice but ig i would agree that it would be nice too to have that bowing gesture here in philippines too :') but i also like the mano po because it looks unique

@@s___akura yeah exactly my thought, i like mano po as much but having options to give respect to people same age as ours or even to younger ones is not a bad idea.

I usually just nod or bow my head to show thanks which is casual. This kind of bow in the prank is a more respectful bow shown to superiors or anyone higher up in the hierarchy like your parents etc. But it also depends on the occasion.

Ooh, I understand what you mean. Bowing also used to be a thing in China in the 20th century.. However, we don't do that anymore because it's really formal and since Chinese are easygoing people it's rare to see bows. It's not because we don't have manners, it's just in Chinese, terms we call each other are the terms that are also called in family so basically meaning we are one big family and we don't have to be too formal with one another. I wouldn't really want bowing back mainly because in terms of thanks we really don't have to be so formal with it unless it's something really big.

Despite our close proximity with the Sino Confucian nations of East Asia, sadly we didn't have enough time to mingle and exchange cultures with them, the Spaniards came too soon.

Why do some people feel insecure about bowing? Like it’s an extremely nice gesture and I also picked up this habit by watching Japanese and Chinese shows. It fills my heart to see people bowing as a form of expressing gratitude.
