This is very impressive. Some feedback. The wind modelling needs some work. Wind moves in waves, and would look more natural if you could visually see the wind's wave patterns and fluctuations flowing across the leaves. The "still" version at 1:00 is incredible. But the motion version appears a bit too strong (still better than anything I've seen to date). A 5 mph breeze would appear very subtle (more like a rustle -- 2:47 and 4:45 were the closest to this, but still inorganic due to the lack of accurate wind modeling). Most of what we see is akin to a constant 10-20 mph breeze, which doesn't come across as normal due to the uniformity of the wind application. I believe some basic wind modelling would significantly enhance the overall perception of realism for this. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

I saw exactly the same detailed animation of trees back in 3D Mark 2001 SE in 2001. Each leaf was moving. It's been 23 years. And it is still considered an achievement. Damn, it took us 23 years to get this. And you tell me technology is developing fast? The turtle is crawling faster, guys. It's very annoying. People thought in those years that we would already be living in virtual reality. Indistinguishable from reality itself. And all we have now is a couple of decent VR games on lame helmets, where the picture is pixelated again and suffers from all sorts of glitches. And again, are you saying that this is progress? And I will answer again that the damn turtle will still crawl to the water faster!

Your comment made me take another look at the good old 3DMark demo. I was also amazed at the 3DMark demos back then. I was always very happy when a new one was released. However, you should take a closer look at it from today's perspective. The leaves of the trees in the 3DMark demo alone consist only of simple 3D surfaces that move back and forth in a very simple way. I estimate that these trees do not comprise much more than 3K triangles. The wind trees from my latest asset have up to 1 million and more triangles. So about 330 times as many triangles more...or something like that :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaqQmGp6a6-ZjpY

@@fabioalexandre3536 Sorry for the late reply. It always depends on what exactly you want to do. For example, if you want to work with the wind animations shown in this video, a 4060 Ti (16GB) or a 4070 Ti (16GB) would be the absolute minimum! Such complex wind animations in combination with meshes with millions of triangles and the use of Nanite + WPO + VSMs requires enormous GPU power. If you want to have enough GPU memory for this scenario, then I would actually recommend a 4090. If the wind is not important to you, then you are sufficiently equipped with the above mentioned.

I'd say we're still 15-25 years away from anything looking even remotely realistic. Don't get me wrong, I do love the effort put in to this. But if I'm out on a bright day looking at trees the shadows would be perceived as much darker. Dark as in black. Especially with the sun in my eyes. It's not even in the same ball park in this demo. As for the motion of the trees and grass there's obvious looping in the motion at least on the grass, so what's that about? This demo is ultra realistic when compared to Super Mario bros on NES, yes. But compared to real life. Decades away. But again, it's cool to see the development of the techniques.

No offense but for the price of just this one pack I could buy the Forester plugin and generate any number of tree species, all with more realstic wind, down to the individual leaves...
@pharos541410 ай бұрын
The Forester plugin is for C4D. Although there is an export function for UE, this software is not specialized in this. There are also no example videos with UE. There are countless software programs outside of UE. But real time is always something completely different...
@JoshuaLundquist10 ай бұрын
@pharos5414 you can just bake as alembic and import it, or animate them with vertex animation, and C4D imports to UE using Datasmith, which is a plugin already activated in UE 5.3. And it would be real time, as everything is in Unreal. Real time just refers to the rendering.
@pharos541410 ай бұрын
@@JoshuaLundquist With several animated wind trees with a high polygon count of 1 million and more, you would then have a single alembic file that is about 40-50 GB in size. If you then calculate the whole thing for several trees, you would end up with several hundred GB. Is there enough memory and RAM for this? You can also only use materials in alembic files in UE to a very limited extent. Since Nanite is also not possible, Virtual Shadow Maps will not work. You also cannot influence the wind animations in UE (wind strength etc.). In any case, you cannot create an entire forest with it and real-time with such gigantic animations (alembic) are generally not possible. Set 3 massiv alembic trees in your scene and the FPS is in the red zone. And if by vertex animations you are thinking of 'pivot painter'...you can't create animations like this with it. So I don't think it will work.
