My favorite tree of all. I have planted many of these beautiful trees here in KS.

Love bald cypress, and also love the related Taxodium mucronatum from far south Texas and Mexico. I was very excited to see that a breeding program had produced a hybrid between the two. It is called ‘La Nana’, and I found it online. I will put mine in the ground this month

I planted 100 of these in a Missouri bottom that gets flooded periodically but this year has been extremely dry for us but these seedlings are amazingly drought tolerant. The sweetgum and swamp white oak I planted with them are struggling in the heat and lack of rain but these look like they couldn't be happier. I'm quickly realizing how amazing these trees are that are capable of growing well in such a wide variety of conditions

@@FireFlowerFarmstead Thanks for the reply, I live in KS Baldcypress are my favorite tree. I planted one about 15 years ago that is huge now and I noticed it had a lot of seedlings around it last spring. Unfortunately I didn’t think about watering the seedlings last summer and so I have been worried that they didn’t make it. You gave me hope for the next couple of months that they may be ok on their own and to be on the lookout for them this spring. Lol

@@getintothewildwithjeffruma8777 How tall would you say you've gotten in those 15 years? We are curious what the property is going to look like after that much time

@@FireFlowerFarmstead I purchased the tree from K-mart for $20 and it was about 5’7”. To give you a starting point and it is every bit of 45 feet tall now. When I planted this tree I mixed in a 40lb bag of composted manure under and around the tree. The first year it didn’t grow much probably just growing roots but after that first year there were years it would grow 3’ a year. I would actually measure it lol but I was so proud of it. I have had neighbors ask me about it because it is so beautiful it really is. It brings me great joy to know that I planted something that was just a little shorter then myself and is now a beautiful tree that will be enjoyed by people for hundreds of years certainly long after I’m gone lol

It seems the knees would protect the tree's trunk from smashing debris during floods.

exactly I was typing the same thing then I saw your comment, they protect the main truck from big logs o create little blockages that other big floating logs cant damage them in flooded conditions

Were those trees shown located somewhere here in New York State? If so, where?

why are they called knees? they look nothing like knees and only the oldest trees are rot resistant because they have more resin in them
