Dear Phil, I am in awe of your time and research backed with such patience. I was in the Territorial Army 20 years ago in the then Field Hospital unit which had sections in Truro and across Devon. We frequently used both Tregantle and Scraesdon forts. I had no idea about the extent of the railway system serving these establishments. Although Scraesdon is as derelict now as it has been for some time Tregantle is a fully serviced and equipped barracks and training camp. I can't say any more than that. I think the Victorian military would be aghast at what the fort contains these days. I,m sure they'd be mighty puzzled at the absence of the supplying railway. Absolutely fascinating. My hat goes off to you. Ian.

Many thanks for your comments. I trust the video serves as a small tribute to all who have served at the forts in whatever time period and also to those who built and ran the railway.

Yes, I've had some funny looks while I've been filming some of my videos. But when I explain what I am doing people are fascinated by the history in a place they've often known for years but never knew anything about!

As excellent as excellent can be, a must watch of anyone interested in military fortifications of the Rame peninsula, surely the definitive work to date, great music and even a photo of me in 1989 by the Wacker engine shed. A must watch.

Enjoyable and informative hour spent, thanks! I spent a lot of time at both forts in the 90's, very nostalgic.

Many thanks for all the research you have put into this wonderful piece. My father was stationed at the Gas School at Tregantle prior to the D Day Landings, he fell in love with the area and we had many wonderful holidays in South Cornwall while I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. I have my own memories of Pannier tanks on the Looe - Liskard branch line. Thanks again for a brilliant video.

Thanks for sharing the family memories. That whole area of SE Cornwall & the Rame peninsula would have been a hive of activity just prior to D-Day.

Well researched. That 'gate post/pillar' may have been one of the wire rollers from the passing points on the incline?

Very informative video, During 1974 when I was in Navy we went into Scraesdon fort doing a clean up, we found a box with old training grenades in fell out over the deck. We thought they were real , & ran like mad.

I live in Torpoint and found this very interesting. I take my dog along the bottom bit all the time. There are still some railway track too be seen at Wacker opposite the old wooden jetty. And if you cross the road and follow the walk along the track there is a railway track sticking out of a tree all very spooky. Cheers Paul
