Having trouble deciding between Marlin 4 and DS 1 gen 5. (Higher models are quite in the budget currently) Main worry is having no front suspension, but otherwise DS was a more comfortable ride for me... for the occasional ride similar to this, is it tolerable/worth it? Will mainly be on paved roads and gravel/light trails. Just don't want to lose the ability for a little off roading (Again, nothing crazy, not asking it to do jumps for me)

It has a very good behavior on the asphalt. It is light and comfortable. Indeed the wide tires bring more comfort but will never be as smooth as a front suspension.

You started out with a bike with a gold riser handlebar and shorter stem and what looks like a rigid fork; then, at about 1:08, a new handlebar setup appears with what like is like a suspension fork; then gold handlebar bike shows up again later in the video. Did you change bikes?

Hey man, I am considering getting a DS3 gen 4 or gen 5 to convert to an middrive ebike. I'll be putting mudguards and bags on it, mainly riding on the road - but the roads around here here often not smooth and have potholes etc. I'll maybe do some dirt paths or gravel (light offroad like in your video here) for fun. I'm not so worried about weight difference since I'll have a motor that will make the bike go around 30-35 kmph. Have you ridden both gen 4 and gen 5? Do you think the wide tires and ride feeling is better on the newer version or I'd be better off getting the suspension one in my case for comfort?

Heyyy Having a motor on this bike is a real good idea that has also cross my mind! Please give me a return from your experience on this! I haven't try GEN 4. A front suspension might be better in thhis case? Trek did a E-version of the GEN 5 and kept the rigid fork... Let's trust their engineers

The 2022 bike is cheaper and has suspension, vs more expensive 2023 with no suspension. Am I missing something? Thanks for the video though.

As far as i understand, gen 4 are still available with front suspension. Bike industry knows how to make things complicated! Best!

No you don't need to change the stock stem until you purchase a 31.8 diameter handlerbar. Best!

Hi! For serious trail riding i would go for a proper trail bike full suspension or hardtail. Also, take in account your area. Dual sport 3 gen 5 is more a city commuting bike bike than a shredder for trails. Let's get in touch with your local bikeshop for a proper advice.
