Trek Top Fuel or Fuel EX. Which is best for you and why?

Rally bike or distance bike? More travel less travel? Fox RE:aktiv shock or RockShox Ultimate? Trek's 120mm travel Top Fuel 'XC' bike and 140/130mm travel Fuel EX 'Trail' bike look very similar on paper but they're surprisingly different on the trail. And not in the way in you might think.
