I remember the Corgi double set well. The Narcells on my Enterprise got bent out of shape, but the hardy Klingon ship lasted for years.

Thanks for posting this! I loved the Ertl ships. I had only the 1701. I remember I could have gotten more of them the day I got my 1701. But my dad said I could only get one. (Not that they were that freaking expensive at the time!) So of course, I chose the Enterprise. I thought I'd come back and get some more later at the store. But when I came back to that store they were all gone! And I never saw them again. Not even the Star Trek V ones. Never saw them anywhere.

Was this in the States, or...? I could imagine them appearing and disappearing pretty rapidly, quite a small line at the end of the day and maybe not one kids would really have gone in for so much...

@@ExcelsiorsDomain Yeah, this was in the States. I lived in San Diego, and I remember I got mine from like a Longs drug store. But I tell you I never saw the Ertl toys anywhere else after. I wanted to get the BoP and the Excelsior. I was looking for them every time we went out around that period of time. I imagined that other kids wanted 'em just as much and they sold out. Now a few years later when Star Trek V came out, I heard that they were selling some. I had heard from friends that it was the "A". So of course, I wanted one to go with my 1701. I hoped that perhaps they would rerelease the BoP and the Excelsior to go along with 'em, but of course it was a long shot considering that the Excelsior wasn't really featured in the movie. Of course, I never found one. I figured fans were chomping at the bit for ANY Star Trek toys, as there weren't many.

@@terrywest111 Heh, well the irony is here in the UK for reasons not apparent to me I got the Ertls from a local toy shop but there are very few of the Playmates that came later in this country - you got all of those! I think the fundamental difference is that Star Wars got fighters that could fit action figures, whereas Trek was all about the capital ships...

2:33 Star Trek The Motion Picture actually made more than any of the other original 6 films (a lot more) It made almost double what ST:II did. However, ST: II was roughly 1/4th of the budget of The Motion Picture.

That's very interesting, so in terms of rate of return quite a different scenario then. Interesting actually when you consider that that first film might be one of the earliest examples of a science fiction IP transitioning from TV to the big screen after quite a gap. Then you think about how long it took for Star Wars to do the inverse...

Do you know, I don't even know if any of the Eaglemoss Oberths were the Grissom... they tended to use the Pegasus?

Hated the small nacelles on the UK Corgi Enterprise. At least the US version got the proper proportions. Only ever saw that at a UK comic mart back in the mid 80s.
