You can stay in a tent or in the designated places you find on the pitstops in the guide. If you stay in a tent you need to pitch it a little earlier or a little further than the pit stops. I don't remember the exact places I pitched my tent but there are lots of possibilities.

I was able to do half of it. I had to wear my shoes at certain points.
