Thanks for the great video, we were wondering how long a walk this, and your others are , it would be helpful to know the time/ distance covered roughly, for people who perhaps can not walk for hours at a time. We will definitely try this walk

The high towpath by the tunnel portal is original. The horses would have been led up and over the tunnel. The moorings on the other side used to be an old canal warf

I believe the brick remains adjacent to the lock were an old lock cottage. A notice board nearby tells tale of a young child drowning in the canal.

Hi, I watched all these Chesterfield Canal videos today and have to say how brilliant they were. The countryside is so relaxing with little gems like Hawks Wood from this vid popping up along the way. I'm making a note of where these places are so that I can get there and experience it for myself. What astounds me is the solitude, you never seem to come across anyone else despite the fact that some stretches are very close to built up towns such as Worksop and Retford.

Hi mate, I did most of this walk in reverse today, going from Shireoaks to Kiveton. The solitude was so relaxing, a beautiful couple of hours spent taking photos and exploring. Just down from Hawk's Wood towards Shireoak I came across an old black terrier, he was obviously blind and was just sat on the towpath beside a burnt out house. Further down I met a couple of walkers who told me that he was owned by the occupant of the house, who had died in the fire, and was sat there waiting for his master to return. Apparently he lives off mice and other small mammals that he catches in the woods, you obviously didn't come across him though as he doesn't appear in the video. It was a bit of a spooky moment!!

@@TrekkingExploration Not according to a couple of local guys that I met in Hawks Wood (sounds dodgy!!), no-one has lived there since the old guy died, the dog just hangs around the place waiting for his Master to come home, but sadly that's not going to happen.
