Nice Video toward the beginning when you are walking down the Steps the Street on the right is where i live, so the strech of the walk you covered was my playground as a child. The area at the bottom of the steps used to get flooded at times and we would be able to use the small rubber dinghys you saw at the seaside on there. Under the road where the steps are has been filled in as it used to be a bridge. Look forward to watching more of your walks.

Very interesting video, I lived in Skegby until I got married and moved away in 1970. Where you crossed the Mansfield Road at the bottom of Buttery Lane is where the old station used to be. There was a bridge over the road at that point. I can remember the old bridge and the station very well. Just prior to that when you were walking in the deep cutting there used to be footbridge over the railway line which we crossed on our way home from Skegby Junior School sometimes. Instead of crossing the road to Buttery Lane, if you had turned right you would have seen the old ruins next to the River Meden. There was a rumour that this was connected by a tunnel to the Quaker House just back on the other side of Mansfield Road. There was a joiner's works here (Mr Fell), now newish houses, and the river flooded regularly until they sorted the tunnel under the road. Just over the road is the road to Dawgates (Old Road?) and Mrs Dodsley's cottage. She was murdered in the early 1950's. A local man hanged for it. The cottage was bought by an eccentric guy who used to drive around in an old yellow Rolls Royce. Quite something for Skegby.

Great video as always. This is a route I run regularly, Stanton Hill to Pleasley, round the back of the Pit, down to Teversal and back to Stanton Hill - a perfect 10k / 6.2 miles.. Didn't realise the old Stanton Hill station used to be there. The old Teversal Manor station platform remains alongside the Silverhill trail - one for the future maybe. Old railways, disused collieries, drones and awesome countryside. Keep up the good work.

@trekking and towpaths....that was a lovely little journey, the countryside views were outstanding, an absolute gem. I really like the fact that Nottinghamshire have used their old railway lines for recreation, in Lincolnshire we have miles of disused lines, due to being decimated by Beeching in the 60's, but they are mostly left to rot - a real shame. Looking forward to the Rowthorne and Teversal trail videos already!!

I need to get over to Lincolnshire next year. I have a few places in mind, i've kinda looked at the old line from Lincoln to Boston, also a tunnel i think it's Benniworth towards Mablethorpe.
@seamusmcevoy20115 жыл бұрын
@@TrekkingExploration I'm not sure how much of the Lincoln to Boston line is left that still looks like a railway line. From Lincoln to Woodhall Spa it's a cycle way which Sustrans have built, some of the old stations are still there (now in private ownership), but they do look like the real thing which is nice. Once it goes the other side of Woodhall you are into the real fenland area, so your guess is as good as mine regarding the state of the line/infrastructure. Benniworth Tunnel is not far from me, as is the Lincoln to Boston line, so as you will be so close it would be nice to meet up.

you know me, the big fan of Super Dry shirts, has to comment on the snazzy one you're wearing in this video! VERY impressive. how does a Yank get themselves a Super Dry shirt? that site of Skegby Station, wow, if you hadn't said it HAD been a station, I never would have known! truly no signs of the old station remaining. I loved the walking paths along this video, all the greenery on either side. I mean, I know that has been in other videos of yours, I have noticed, but THIS was really great! question--I noticed a few cars parked at Pleasley. were those yours? or do they still have people working there in some capacity even though it's closed? really enjoyed the old photos you found for us on this video!

Hiya again Anthony, Sorry for bothering you with lots of messages, but I've just thought of another place that you might be interested in looking round? It's called Sutton Scaresdale Hall at a place called Sutton-Cum-Duckmanton (don't laugh, that's how it's spelt) lol 😂 there's a board outside the place to prove it. Anyway it's a ruin (shell) of what might of been a lovely Manor house or Stately Hall at one time, and it's free to walk around too, and is on the other side of the motorway and Bolsover Castle too, and the church next to it is very nice I've been told, but not always open when I've been walking around. It was once owned by the Leeke family and all the furniture was taken out and sold to a museum in America for some reason? Anyway have a look on the Internet and see if it's something you might be interested in visiting? If I think of anywhere else that I've been on my travels which may interest you, I'll let you know okay. Anyway that's all for now, I'll be looking out for anymore further videos soon. All the best from. Mike. ☺️.

Hello again Ant. Another fantastic walking on old Railway trails, it's what I like doing best myself, in Chesterfield where I live, we have the five pits trail, which is another old Railway trail, and I think it links up with the Skegby or Pleasley trail? I really enjoyed the video and the drone footage of Pleasley Colliery too, while you were there, did you see on the left, the remains of Clipstone Colliery in the distance? It was the first thing I noticed when I went there in the past, so nice to see history standing in the 21st century. ☺️ Once again brilliant video, looking forward to seeing your next video soon. All the best mate, keep up the good work. From. Mike.

@devonianlad94135 жыл бұрын
Hello again Anthony, Thanks for the reply back, I'll be very interested to see your next video. Pleasley to Bolsover as I've not done that one yet. On another note, I'm glad you managed to get yourself up to Seldom Seen Engine House at Eckington, yes it's a stunning place, when I went up there, I spent about an hour or so photographing the place, from ground level to from above, as there is two ways of getting to it. Also if when you were walking up to the old pump house, if you saw some remains of buildings? That was another mill, where they made metal nails and the river that runs through it, is called the river Moss. Some where in the woods there is an old air raid shelter, but sadly I never found it, so it looks like another trip up there some time for me. So if you've made a video of your trip there, I'll look forward to seeing that sometime too. Also for another trip maybe in the near future, is Haddon Hall Railway Tunnel, which is easy to get in, and has been put on KZbin many times and don't forget the old Railway viaduct at Rowsley too, that's easy to get on to as well, and there two places I've been too myself in the past and really enjoyed. 😀 Anyway thanks again and keep the videos coming to KZbin. 😀😀 See you soon from. Mike.
