The lead singer, Marwan from Egypt, is only 19 years old. Nine-frickin-teen! He also arranged this one. They trade off. Ed Boyer is a mixing master. He mixes for all of the a cappella groups. Please do more from The Bass Gang. (And Voiceplay.)

The Bass Gang is awesome. They are all bass singers. This is another rabbit hole too go down. All the members also have their own KZbin channels.

Ed Boyer is the same genius mixer who works for a lot of a cappella groups like Home Free and VoicePlay. Marwan filmed in Egypt because Czech Republic wouldn't grant him a visa to join Peter Barber and Bobby Bass to meet Tomi P in Europe. The four have never met in person before. They had to get creative to include Marwan in this series of four videos. They're all good, but i like this one and Friends Like Me best.

I think you'll really like The Bass Gang. Peter Barber is a professional opera singer, and is also a reactor. All four do their own solo work.

Peter did a reaction to all the Bass Gang's songs in this 4-sequence work. It was so interesting to watch because he gives you a great deal of the background (like where the filming took place, some of the problems they ran into, etc. I really enjoyed his reactions and it made me enjoy the songs even more.

I think it should be noted that in this Series (May the Bass be With You, volume three), each song is led by a different member. And whoever sang lead did the arranging. So that atmospheric Arabian sound was Marwan's doing.
@Broomrider14927 ай бұрын
The lead in this is Marwan Ayman is the youngest member of the group at 19 years old. What a voice. Tomi P did the voice for the Cave of Wonders. Marwan couldn't get a visa so had film in Egypt. There are Four videos to this story.

Indeed. I look forward to reactions of the other three chapters (Four different songs from three Disney movies, all braided together into a new narrative).

The Bass Gang is second only to VoicePlay in my book. All are basses and are from around the world. Marwan (lead here) is from Egypt, Tomi P (Czech Republic), Peter Barber and Bobby Bass from around the US. They have done other songs while each are sending their parts from their homes. They decided to do this 4 song Disney album beginning with Arabian Nights (lead by Marwan), followed by Be Prepared (Tomi P). then Gaston (Peter), finishing with Friend Like Me (Bobby Bass). They were finally all going to be together in the Czech Republic but Marwan wasn't approved by the visa authorities - so he set up a crew for filming, the setting, the dancer, and getting the audio and video to the other 3 guys in CR. He still couldn't leave the country for the other songs so some liberties were taken (Casper their manager filled in Marwan's part in Be Prepared while some cleverness occurred), in Gaston's song they used a framed magic mirror for Marwan to be seen, and Aladin's lamp had Marwan safely tucked inside it. Some of their earlier stuff - Centuries, Yellow Flicker Beat, If I Had A Heart and more. They are brilliant.

The Kickstarter campaign was to fund the trip for the Bass Gang to meet in the Czech Republic to film "May The Bass Be With You, Volume 3". (Arabian Nights was the first of the 4 songs in the album.) None of the group members had ever met in person prior to that trip. They had only performed virtually prior to that - and since that trip. Marwan in the youngest - he recently turned 20. Tomi and Bobby are mid-20s. Peter is the oldest at 30. Bobby also sings with The Wellermen.

Because Marwan's visa application was denied at the last minute, the Gang had to scramble and re-do the storyboard for this. They managed to find a place in the Czech Republic that was "arab-esque" enough to serve as their background. Then they dropped Marwan in the middle of the Sahara Desert and said "That's how much room your voice has, Kid. Fill it up." and Marwan said... Hold my juicebox (a running joke in Bass Gang videos due to his age). He did a magnificent job on this number.

Love the Bass Gang and Marwan is incredibly talented. Check out more of his stuff, you'll love it. He was filming in Egypt because he had visa issues but the other three were in the Czech Republic (one is Czech and the other two are American).
@jonadabtheunsightly7 ай бұрын
This project is in several ways somewhat atypical of the Bass Gang's work. The original plan was for all four of them to film together, but Marwan's visa didn't come in, so he had to film in Egypt, which worked out really well for this song but was a bit of a kludge for a couple of the others, though they found ways to make it work. As far as I know, this project was the first time the group used instrumental backgrounds, and it was the first time three of them filmed together at the same physical location. There's a lot less multi-tracking on this album than their previous ones. I think the kickstarter funds were mostly needed for travel expenses (because the group members live in widely scattered places), but I don't really know all the details. And yes, the reason they're The Bass Gang is because all four of them are basso profondo singers with at least a five-octave range if not more. That's significantly less obvious here, than in some of their other work. (Emperor's New Clothes, for example, goes out of its way to slap you in the face with that, repeatedly.) They all had separate channels first, then started doing stuff together (I think during the pandemic) and became a group.
@alyssadaniels78417 ай бұрын
You should definitely check out more of them! Some that will give you a better sense of all of their voices would be Mad World, Jolly Sailor Bold, or If I Had A Heart. All four members are bass singers with insane ranges. Arabian Nights is the first song off of their 3rd album, where each member arranged and took lead on one Disney song. This one was Marwan’s project and lead. Also, they are normally in 3 different countries (US, Egypt, Czech Republic), so they did the Kickstarter campaign so they could film the videos for the album together and make them high quality.

But Marwan couldn’t get a visa so he has to be edited in. 😢. It was so bitter sweet to know that they got over to the Czech Republic and Marwan could not join them. Stupid politics

Excellent reaction, thank you so much! The Bass Gang is a favourite group of mine, and this song, which Marwan arranged, holds a special place, as it is the first time they were to actually meet in person. Marwan ended up unable to travel, so he's the only one in Egypt. I also love love love Marwan's solo work - he quite recently released a cover of Seal's, "Kiss by a Rose," which is beautifully complex, musically and visually! He completed all of the music, visuals, engineering, editing, etc., himself - while preparing for his 3rd year college exams as well!! I am sooo proud of him!! I also love his cover of Avi Kaplan's, "Get Down," also a complex project he completed on his own, in his tiny room in Egypt. Marwan is quite the prodegy - he's not called, "The Beast from the Middle East" for nothing! Thanks again!! Blessings from Kauai! 💖💖💖

Yay, you found these guys! They are all so immensely talented. Marwan's parts were filmed in the Sahara. I can't believe he's just a teenager and already an arranging genius, as well as a vocal force of nature. At 17, he could hit same B0 subharmonic that took Geoff Castellucci into his 40s to hit. So in 30 years, if the Earth trembles, it's just Marwan singing. Definitely keep an eye on him and the rest of the group.

You need to follow up with all 4 videos. As Msrwan was forced to remain in Egypt and couldn't meet the others in Czechia they had to come up with a plan to include him in thebother videos. The Lamp. That was first time they all should meet in real life, only 3 could make it. Nr 2 Be Prepared lead Tomi P Nr 3 Gaston lead Perer Barber Nr 4 A Friend Like Me lead Bobby Waters From a small but proud Kickstarter. These guys are great.

Thanks for this fun reaction! As a typically parochial American I really enjoyed hearing your comments on names, linguistics, culture, etc.-the Internet is my window on the world. These Disney covers are quite a bit different than most videos & arrangements by The Bass Gang & I was disappointed not to hear more of their signature low vocals. But they've worked so amazingly hard & expanded their individual ranges & vocal quality *so much* over the last 3 years (especially Marwan!!) that I certainly don't begrudge him a chance to flaunt it a bit.... 😏 I'd like to ask for your reaction to TBG's cover of Panic! at the Disco's "The Emperor's New Clothes"-but! I urge you to watch the official video by P!atD first. So many visuals in The Bass Gang's video make more sense & are funnier when you know what they're emulating or riffing off! Of course their version looks, & was, absurdly low-budget compared to P!atD's video, & it was an early work for the group. But consider that (1) it's a capella, with almost all beatboxing by a visibly-younger Marwan; (2) TBG were on 3 separate continents & never met or practiced together before recording their own individual tracks; & (3) all the members were students or otherwise employed while they created & produced this "in their spare time". I think it's a jaw-dropping achievement & a helluva fun vid. 🤓

Yay!!! I’m so glad you found these guys, because there is a TON of talent here. They did hire in Ed Boyer for this (he also does the mixing for Voiceplay and quite a few other groups). I hope you’ll check out more of their music-even the early days stuff, you can tell they had very minimal resources but the music was great. Tomi lives in the Czech Republic and all the guys were supposed to meet there but Marwan had VISA problems (I’m still really unhappy about that). They found clever ways to keep him in the picture for the rest of the videos in this volume, which were filmed in the Czech Republic. Also, PLEASE check out Marwan’s channel. He has some brilliant music there. I’m SO impressed with him. Tomi, too, has an extensive catalogue that’s well worth your attention. More, please!!

This is the first of 4 Disney songs they did last summer. The rest are just as good. Each of them arranged and "stars" in one. Prior to these videos they had not met in person although they had made many videos. They were all supposed to be in the Czech Republic, but Marwan wasn't able to get a visa, so he did his part in Egypt. They have lots of really interesting things out there. Have fun going down the rabbit hole. They also each have solo channels.

The storyline continues in the next part. Marwan disappeared into the lamp🪔 . This was my favorite (Partly because Marwan is my favorite😊. There’s something about the tone of his voice that really resonates with me. ) I like the whole series but this is my favorite followed very closely by Peter’s hilarious Gaston. That’s a really imaginative take on some Disney Classics. They do a lot of collaborations because everything has to be done over the Internet and they’ve had a wide variety of collaborators. The first one I heard was Yellow Flicker Beat with Colm McGuinness that I really love. But I think you would really love Centuries with Jonathan Young. I’m not a huge metal fan but he has an amazing voice as well. Casper Fox who was listed in the credits also has collaborated with them on a few things (tenor) and is their manager. And of course he lives in a totally different country and has a totally different nationality (Danish). Because they’re a pretty eclectic bunch!👍🏼 VoicePlay is my favorite a cappella group, but they are pretty close second. They also do a wide variety of genres and are not afraid to take risks and are completely self produced.

Bass Gang are one of my favourites! Surprised you haven't yet reacted to Faouzia. She's a Moroccan born Canadian singer who is phenomenal. She is still just 23, but writes almost all her own songs. She's done a duet with John Legend. Has just released a live performance version of her latest - Fur Elise. But she also does a stellar cover of Sting's Desert Rose - singing both parts (English and Arabic). She does a lot of "stripped" versions of her songs, which are much better as she doesn't need a lot of orchestration. A lot of her live performances are just piano accompaniment. Oh, she also did an Arabic section on a song with Kelly Clarkson. I think you would like her voice.

She just did, within the last couple of hours, Desert Rose in Singer 2024 from China. Amazing! And she won that round as well. That was Round 3. Round 2 she sang Set Fire to the Rain (Adele) which she also won.
