This is a classical guitar lesson is all about the tremolo technique. This is a lesson for absolute beginners to learn tremolo technique or guitar players at an intermediate/advanced level who want to revisit some fundamentals with the right hand.
I've also composed a short tremolo guitar etude called Starshine that you can download the sheet music and tab for FREE here:
www.hannahmurphyguitar.com/store2/starshine-by-hannah-murphy
This piece allows you to work on your right hand tremolo technique along with musicality while keeping the left hand parts easy enough so you can focus on the right hand.
This is a short etude that I was inspired by Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Tarrega and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I hope you enjoy it!

Recieved "STARSHINE"pdf July 13,2022. My first composed tremelo exercise ever. Study etude today 2/26/2023 as an (absolute beginner)with 8 months of daily practice and the ability to just barely use the lesson as classical guitar study. The "STARSHINE" composition lights the way and your light shines on me now. Thank You

It's not easy, I know, been practicing tremelo for years and don't think it will ever be consistent, but sometimes ,when no one is listening, it just flows , but not at will, maybe just luck. Great to see a lady keeping classical guitar alive.

Though I learnt classical guitar with a teacher who was Narciso Yepes` apprentice here in Argentina... I could never grow my nails hard enough for them to play really fast... They just kept breaking and breaking no matter how much warm sunflower oil I dipped them in. I kept playing electric guitar and bass... Today I play a lot of speedy things from metal shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Walter Giardino. But I know someday I`ll buy a classical guitar and start once again with the right hand technique exercises at full speed... My mother comes from Spain and she was born in Gallaecia... not too far from Asturias. So you could say I have it running in my blood. Nice video, really helpful and wonderful insight on this difficult art. You`re a wonderful tutor. Greetings from Argentina!!

Hi Hannah! My name is Andrés, I'm a guitarist and Argentinian! I thank you for the information you give in this video! They helped me to unlock the tremolo and take a step forward with this beautiful technique! I really can't put into words what you helped me. Although it was months of work to do it, I feel that these exercises helped me to move forward with greater fluidity when playing the tremolo! I don't play as well as you do! I hope one day to become as good a guitarist as you! A big hug from Buenos Aires, Argentina!

BTW, the intro you played at the beginning was wonderful! I could only hope to do tremelo as well as you, and so softly, too! Awesome! And I liked how you said (in another video) "the world can create all kinds of reasons for you to not become a musician, but if you work through it, you'll be rewarded in ways you couldn't imagine." (Paraphrased a bit, I think.) That's very encouraging! It inspires me. Good lesson, thank you! Jeffro 🤪

I know that I am in no way qualified to try and advise you on how to improve your technique, so I just wanted to SHARE with you something I read in the Aguado method. He teaches to stop directly behind the fret (as much as comfortably possible) because it requires the least amount of energy when compared to, for example, stopping in the middle of the frets. So that you can have more energy to play longer, and so you don't have to press too hard in general. The more relaxed, the better, right? It requires so little pressure. I thought, just in case you didn't know this, that you might want to know. I only noticed this towards the end, when you played your ballad. ( I type these words humbly and respectfully to you.) I appreciate you teaching us this technique. Your performances are always precious and so very peaceful. It's like heaven. GB you and Phil.

Hi Hanna... Thanks for providing the tremolo practice song "Starshine". It's my go-to practice piece when I want to spend a few minutes several times a week focusing on tremolo. I love the final powerful final C-Chord in bar 19. It sounds like that big stong sound a symphony orchestra makes as it's final "note" (chord). I guess this is why guitar is sometimes called "an orchestra in a box", as it can emote that feeling of an entire syphony orchestra in a single instrument. Thank you again!

Hannah thanks for the exercise you compose for us. I have progressed a lot with my tremolo after your encouragement. I can play the whole Recuerdos now. It's not brilliant yet, but after a few more months of polishing I think it will be reasonably good. During my learning process, I found that the last bit of Recuerdos is good for starting the tremolo exercise as it has easy LH fingering. The 2nd easy LH bit is from the beginning of the major part till the end. That's to say that the major is a lot easier to start with. The minor part, which is the beginning, has difficult LH stretch which take a few months for the fingers to get used to. I think that should be left till the end. The slurs can also be ignored at the beginning, until we can play reasonably well.

I badly burned the tip of my index finger a few weeks ago. I can still softly chord, no quick changes, and absolutely no lead work. I thought to myself, how can I still practice guitar discipline with my limited mobility? So I focused on my right hand and it led me to classical tremolo picking. I love it and I would have never known. Life is funny. I don't really have the nails for it so the attack is not as pronounced but it's still fun. I look forward to learning this
