Pretty clean uniforms for prisoners and well shaved, too. Oh, and the soap and showers, dog tags, altogether very unrealistic for prison attire and comforts. I also doubt the smirks would be tolerated by the authorities. The only thing missing was a female in charge. Maybe in the sequel.

Cool series, but they are mixing eras. These guys are acting like WWII Germans. The WWI German army was much more aristocratic, and they dealt with officers according to 19th century traditions. This is more like "The Great Escape".

No, if you watch The Great War channel it goes in to detail of every aspect of WW1 then known as the Great War. Prisoners in WW1 were treated horribly. Loaded onto cattle carts and given meagre rations to eat usually every five days. They were starving, tortured and beaten.

That 'orrible German at the beginning is Shaun Pertwee (unless I'm very much mistaken), player of gangsters, sergeant commanding the troops in cult horror movie "Dog Soldiers"', son of comedian Jon Pertwee (3rd Dr Who) and the guy who did all the voices for the troops in the game "Medeival: Total War." The Russian who hordes his string is that famous actor from Northern Ireland who was a principal character in that long running BBC drama where he played the boyfriend of Helen Baxendale, the pretty lady who played the English girl Ross wanted to marry in the sitcom, "Friends".

Actually the ww1 soldiers where known to be not cruel altough there was a panik against partisans in belgium because of the recent start of the war. I dont think he really got beated every day (never heard that it was common maybie special prisoner or sadistic guard ) actually the good behavior of the german troops in ww1 was one of the reasons the russian population wasnt fleeing so much in ww2 because they remembered the decentcy of the soldiers in ww1 but in ww2 they got killed for no reason. Well the Russian prisoners were treated extremely badly as were the Allies captured by the Turks. They were hoarded into cattle trains with no food or water. They were made to march down the street as the towns people heckled them. Then in prison they were starved and tortured. The Germans did the same to the Russian and French prisoners of war.
