I think Jaleel White has a point when he said it's about how committed you are and how real you make the role. If you go half ass, then it really feels like someone is forcing you put on a dress for whatever reason. However, when it feel as real as Myrtle, I don't think people watching are thinking "gosh, this little kid sold out", they are just appreciating the artistry. Jaleel also pointed out cross-dressing humor is not limited to just African Americans. Tootsie and Mrs. Doubtfire are classics mostly because cross dressing made sense in the plot and the portray and the story were on point. Sure, Myrtle was very gimmicky, but Jaleel still went all it to the point that he eliminated all cringe in her first appearance. There's something to be said about that.

The issue with jaleel and jo marie is that it is very simple to figure out. Even though urkle was a hell of a character, it was harriet's show as she was the one that brought it to fruition from perfect strangers because I remember her character being an elevator operator before she was promoted and perfect strangers ended. It's not that anybody was petty, it's that the lady finally gets her own show to be a star, and then they bring a child and the child completely overtakes them, leaving them with no show that she earned in the first place. I do agree that the character grew a life of its own. But his attitude on set was a huge reason why he never took off afterwards, and he was typecast as urkle everywhere he went. So of course, there was going to be a little animosity when someone takes over their show, just popping up. It's human and then all honesty.His character other than being funny didn't have too much to offer the show, either.

Jaleel White wasn't just shady to the main cast, he was shady with the guest stars too. Actor Robert Laughlin was written to be a rival to Urkel, Dexter Thornhill, in an episode of Family Matters. Even though he was meant to be a reoccurring role and audiences really responded to him, Jaleel had him AND the writer of the episode fired out of jealousy.

@@TherealJcurt34 The long term cast members were leaving and being replaced by more Urkels. Once Stefan and Myrtle became weekly characters, not to mention, OG Urkel, "Stevil" etc, how much Urkel is too much Urkel?
