I think Jay-Z understands that Hip Hop is a young person game. So since he retired in 2003 The Black Album was his last album that had banging singles with the only exception being The Blueprint 3. He doesn’t need to follow trends or even try to make chart topping singles his name will carry his music. 4:44 is the perfect example of this.
