I see where Jeff's coming from and I agree. I started skateboarding fairly early '86 -'87 and in '89 I started coming into my own with skateboarding. Anyway, We left the country in '90 and I disconnected from skateboarding entirely (not by choice). We moved back to the States and I started skateboarding again around '95. However, I couldn't connect with what skateboarding was at that time mainly because I didn't recognize it. I was like screw it I'm just going to skate how I skate and I caught shit for skating "old school". I would watch my old Speed Freaks! tape, my go to hype tape and watch Eric Dressen (and Grosso) to get pumped. I quit again in '99 just sick of it all. Big mistake. But now in my late 30's I started again and realize that when it comes to skateboarding you're always welcome to be a part of it as long as your true to yourself and your skating and what it means to you. At this point, nothing makes me happier than trying to impress my wife by doing no complys, bonlesses, and weak ass kick flips as she shakes her head and lovingly rolls her eyes. Thanks for indulging me...

two things I admit I did 1. a boneless where you hop up to something higher, then do a boneless off of THAT. If you ride regular you are planting your left foot then jumping and landing on your left foot AGAIN.You're just hopping with a skateboard it's bs but I did them. 2. In about 1990 there was a brief trend where you would mount two of your front bolts upside down so your sneaker would catch them when you ollied. It tore the Hell out of your sneakers and was entirely un necessary if you could ollie properly.

Love these vids and JG but i think Jeff's projecting his feelings onto everyone. I like seeing saran raps, and stalefish airs. im 37 but i wasnt physically there where they were originally done.. its a bit odd because ollies and grinds are repeated millions of times... and thats great. I don;t think every pro would agree with him. Yes certain tricks get played out but if u love skating with a pure heart, they never really get old. as for most of the other comments, 360 flips never get old for me. watching them , i mean.. i can't do them except on carpet im not a great skater

It's amusing how skateboard culture is defined to be about not giving a fuck about what others think, being a creative individual, and respecting others for their individuality. Then there are these conversations and debates among skaters about what's cool and what's lame. So much for skateboarding being about individual expression and mutual respect. I say we should all just skate and appreciate. Rip it up my friends!

im just glad the prodigy/wunderkid generation has pushed the middle ground/skater towards shaped boards/rails/large hangers....ace/indy/venture/thunder making bigger hangers these days. While the flippy trick, light board hollow truck tablet/slim profile riders can still proliferate in THAT direction. This is a trend i can back the widening of the skate spectrum. Slappies are at an all time high and ppl are now riding 10" thunders what a time to be a skater/own a quiver. All these re-issued ojs/bones/santacruz wheels. 92a/95a/97a. For slick parks or other surfaces. Its looking like a PEAK era in skating id bite HARD now before things take turn in the industry and generally in the economy. Or buy up some re-issues or random wheel/blends/shapes now and have a backup-stock pile incase things really get busty. Lil skate rats are still air dropping into ramps and doing plants bc they can ollie/do flip tricks its such a revival in my eyes.
