I do agree the better investment is the real deal. I do agree that post modernism is trending. I personally think it's a reactionary trend that repeats itself... Or I should say loud, bold, rebellious, cury styles (not only post modernist, but also guady, and others that defy straight lines and colorless decor). The theme of celebrating color and natural curves IS timeless, but the way that is embraced is not necessarily. Same with neutral cubic rigid design. You lean in too far with either of these and it becomes repulsive, uncomfortable, boring, etc. But it's like yin and yang, the pendulum swings timelessly. Some days when there's most stress society swings between these because they each effect us emotionally at a time when society NEEDS to calm down and feel orderly, in control - or needs to feel alive, a spark of joy, light, and energy when they can't see hope. Sadly these two styles trend when society is struggling with it's worst problems. France is a famous example. The curvylinear designs vs the straight in the royal palaces. The poor cheering themselves up with bright and sunny colors and flowers or fruits that symbolize prosperity. Note: instinctively we all know a consistent curve is harder to accomplish than a straight line. Thus it will ALWAYS be the most expensive because it demands a talented artisan with attention to details.

Wow, I love this response, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and apologies for taking so long to respond. I agree with you that trends are reactionary. Minimalism is the first example that comes to mind, and how it spiked in popularity after the recession in 08. Will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years, considering the state of the world atm..

Also pleated lamp shades! I think those are pretty timeless but currently very trendy. I actually found an affordable one that is basically a copy of the HAY one on amazon and covered my ugly boob light on my ceiling. I had been racking my brain on how to cover my ceiling light without hiring a electrician to remove it since I rent an apartment.

Yes, I agree! And that’s such a good shout, just changing the shade can make a BIG difference (and saves u the money of getting an electrician too). The boob light is the worst - I need to fix mine too 😂

All of the pieces except some of the paper lamps I wouldn't consider them timeless. I feel they mainly rely on a sort of gimmick or novelty: something akin to the pet rock. And how do you structure a room with a product which demands so much attention without a line of accessories which compliments that style? I don't care how impressive the crafting of an object is if the idea driving its creation is banal like the mushroom lamp or the Shar Pei wrinkly glorified bean bag sofa. Popular yes, timeless doubtful.

What I find interesting with items like these that are trendy, is whether or not their popularity is the main reason for purchasing. I feel like the intention behind purchasing an item like this will be the deciding factor in terms of trendy/timelessness. I personally think that for instance the Shar Pei sofa (made me laugh haha) can be considered timeless to some people if they have a genuine interest in collecting vintage design, and if the buyer genuinely LIKE it. If that's the case, I'm all for it! But if the intention behind the purchase is to get a picture for social media, and then toss it when no longer trending - then ye, I'm not a fan. I'm also not a fan of dupes, which is why I'd always advocate getting the real deal, regardless of its popularity, if you're set on having an item. Secondly, I'm inclined to agree with you that some of these items seem banal today - especially dupes, but it's important to consider that they seemed both original and fresh at the time they were first introduced to the market. For a while, furniture took on a lot of strange shapes haha, so it's fun to see what people are drawn to today. At the end of the day, it's all personal which is why I think interior design is so fun 😊

The fact that this mirror was first produced in the 1970s and is trending half a century later proves its timelessness beyond any shadow of a doubt, case closed.

Thomas Kinkade paintings are popular even today but not considered timeless by any serious galleries.Kitsch would pass as a good description. Case reopened.
