At larger stations, when coaching stock was locomotive hauled, there was a 'station pilot' which moved the coaches to and from the station to the coach sidings for cleaning and storage.
Many different locomotives were used for these operations.
In this video, a Class 5 0-6-0 Shunter, with its match truck, leaves the Diesel Shed and picks up a rake of Mark 1 coaches from the Lower East Station Carriage Sidings and places them in the North Bay of Main Station.
