Great point. Personally I think it's the spacing and runners. England need wingers to stick out on the touchline. There's no blame on Saka for me, he's providing similar movement to early days Salah cos he's got legs, that could be a great partnership too. But maaan Kane needs to be dropped this last game for Watkins to make the runs, trust me thatI'll make a huge difference and then you might get more people breaking from CM. If you're gonna play Trent, give him the tools.

people are talking more about trent because he's a full back made to play central midfield in a major international tournament. similar scrutiny would be given to any player being played out of position in the starting eleven. this isn't some weird agenda to persecute trent the individual or to target liverpool players. also, saying 'the midfield isn't working' is not 'scapegoating' trent. there is a crazy level of defensiveness around trent right now. nobody except double digit IQ troglodytes online are seriously blaming him. if you actually listen to most of the criticism, pundits are mostly blaming southgate for hanging trent out to dry.

Most pundits are only changing their view now because it looks stupid to pin the blame on Trent which they were doing baring Cesc and Wright. Trent being in midfield isn't the problem it's the system no point haven Trent in that area if you don't have runners ahead of him. If he had Gordon Watkins as well as sake to find England would stretch teams. Instead Foden is coming of the left deep int the middle to literary pick the ball off Trent and Rice to start attacks and Kane naturally dropped deep with no runners which led to the Denmark goal. If Southgate is viewing Trent as Philips replacement it's no wonder the system has been a shambles but this bombing Trent out to fix it narrative is laughable and he is the top chance provider despite everything going against him.

TAA's an enigma for me. 20+ years ago, we'd be talking about Trent, not Beckham, as the best right winger, crosser and set piece specialist in the world. These days, I don't know that either Liverpool or England have figured out where he works best. He's still only 25, but made his LFC debut 8 years ago. It's frustrating that such an immensely talented footballer comes with big tactical limitations in other aspects of his game that aren't likely to improve. Maybe Slot can figure it out.

We've lacked proper midfield protection since Fabinho's drop off so we just need to sort that out and he will be fine. They scored and then switched to 2DMs. And Southgate said that wasn’t the plan, it was because they needed to absorb pressure. Then he did it again against Denmark….. he has been preparing as an 8, played all the warm up games as an 8, played a 4-3-3…..

Or he switches play with a wide diagonal for Diaz on the left, but for England he has Foden, tucking inside.. I personally dont think it has really worked with TAA in midfield but dont make him a scapegoat to cover up how clueless the england manager is, did england improve yesterday when gallagher came on in midfield, no. It’s so unfair that they’ve been getting him ready to play him as an 8, in the warmups too, and then Southgate decides to throw him into the deep end in game one and play him as a CDM. FFS, not even “real” 8s can just play DM. It’s ridiculous and he’s been set up to be the fall guy and has been for months. Hello Liverpool fans, I’m a Liverpool fan from Dublin. Let me tell you Trent is a shocking defender. We all know it! Admit it. He also would be the worst central midfielder in the known universe. He has very poor ball control when pushed in field, can’t control the ball securely or shield it, this is compounded by a lack of pace. Centrally he can not defend! He can’t tackle or see danger! Plus he’s very lazy!

As for tickets for the match now its fucking pathetic, the only way i (as someone who lives 15 minutes from anfield) can get a ticket is via a ticket tout at £250 PER TICKET, fucking scandalous - if i wanna take my lad its £500 to go 15 minutes down the road and watch 90 minutes of football, add on food/petrol/parking and its getting onto being 3/4 of a weekly wage! Trent’s a luxury player. He needs the team built around him. He can’t play a conventional RB or Midfield role. I think his attitude to defending stinks, completely changed since he 1st got in squad when he was having to prove himself. His intensity has dropped markedly since all the accolades and comparisons to De Bruyne etc. I think attacking RB with cover from an athletic number 6 like he got from Gini and Hendo is the best fit for him.

Either England plays someone (in the front three) that benefits from Trents passing ability, or there's no point in picking him (when the front three want to come back and receive to feet). Toney, Watkins and Trent would work as a 'unit' and compliments each other's game.....so Southgate has to choose, start Kane or Trent , the other on the bench.

Good midfielders can ping short and long progressive passes that take the team up the field, top class midfielders do the dirty work, run..run..run both ways, cover for their mate and work hard when you under severe pressure. These top class traits are not being shown by TAA for over a season at RB. I know it's not popular to try and bring balance to a football debate, however, on Trent's defending (for us), it's fair to say he struggles when facing a quick left winger who can play on his blind side. Prime example being Martinelli (and Gordon). But that should be the flexibility of a squad, indeed, you'd of expected Bradley to of played vrs Arsenal (in the 3:1 defeat) if fit.....after what he showed in the FA Cup game.

I am done with hearing about Trent playing in the middle of midfield. He isn’t wanting to do the nasty stuff and work without the ball he wants the ball and ping it which is what he is good at. To get the best out of Trent you have to play him like beckham on the wing which means changing formation. Trent doesn’t get in any other top top team in right back or middle of midfield. We give him a pass cos he is from Liverpool rather than looking at what he can do well vs what can’t he do. We always look more neat when Trent isn’t playing which I hate but I see what I see.

No coincidence that our title challenge fell off a cliff when Trent came back into the side. 8 games from April 8th - W2 L3 D2 14 goals conceded (Atalanta 1-0 win doesn't count...they were totally happy with that!)

I feel any player at the level people hold Trent at should be able to put in effort but I am watching Trent’s body language and it’s terrible and it’s been the same for the end of the season when he came back into the team for Liverpool. Brady is a better RB than Trent and I would also go as far to say I would choose Gomez at RB than Trent. And as for DCM where it’s even more of a battle Trent is easy to play against. Look at all the top 10 teams in the Prem and ask which midfielder would not fancy a battle in the middle of the park against Trent. Then do the same if you play Trent at RB and tell me who as a LW wouldn’t fancy it against Trent. I wish I was wrong but he brings more problems to the team than he actually resolves. If we are to get the best from Trent you need to change the formation which I’m totally happy to do and play Trent as a RM like where Beckham played and just get him crossing the ball to the forwards. 442 formation

Trent was the best RB in Europe a few years ago. Now he just can't be arsed imo nothing to do with ability. He's been told he's the next SG8, when he hasn't got half his ability. I saw Gerrard at Anfield play Vs Palace at RB. He was the best player on the pitch by a mile. He was a 'kin monster, even went on to stab Rafa in the back and get the Owl in, but that's a different story. Trent needs to get back to basics, or go to Mayeeed and be Billy Big Bollox over there.
