Unpopular Opinion: A -4 hit is definitely a good idea if the two players you transfer in have nice entry points + good expected data + upcoming fixtures.

@@LetsTalkFPL yeah but it's never ideal to go without Saka, or, occasionally, have triple defence if CS don't happen, Saka is a long-term hold. He costs people 10.5m and that's not fun. I'm on 104.5m budget even after taking Mbeumo out last night. Saka is more than capable of providing an assist or 2 returns, plus bonus, this weekend. Saliba's 15pts were nice though.

I'm not sure how to explain this... But the way defenders are, and I think this is especially the case with Rico Lewis, a clean sheet is never a guarantee, so you want attacking returns right (Especially this season it feels like a clean sheet is never a guarantee)? And if you look at the total points of the top defender (VVD), he has 64 over 14 game weeks. That's 4.5 a game... Now take into account the price of him, and compare it with Rico Lewis? Even if Rico Lewis doesn't start every game, he still comes onto the pitch and will sometimes play like a CAM or a RW, these positions are very good for his chances of getting goals or assists.. I dunno, there is just something about Lewis, and I feel like when he does start a game, plays in that attacking role, gets a clean sheet and a goal, which all could happen, suddenly he's going to be at the tip of everyones tongues again.. He just feels like an easy hold for me? Bit of a ramble..

I would say clean sheets are far more likely than a people think they are. For example, Liverpool have had 8 out of 14 games this season, thats a defender return every other game week! If you double up, like some people have on arsenal, then you can cash out on them when they come. You are right that it's not a guarantee, but neither is a defender getting an attacking return. It's why they are, relatively, the cheapest positions in the game. However, defenders are very special in that they can get decent points from clean sheets and goals. Ignoring this possible source of points can hurt you over the season. So you ideally you pick defenders who have an okay chance at either, and that doesn't put all your eggs in one basket. Players like Timber and Gabirel come to mind, and they aren't that expensive, which is why they are popular. They play for teams with good defences and can get goals from set pieces (which is where the vast majoirty of defender goals come from) If you think of clean sheets, like attacking returns, then the price you are paying for certain defenders is very good value for money, especially if they can score from corners which happens many times a game.

There will be more clean sheets over the winter period. I see your point but the main issue, particularly at this time of year, is the minutes risk. Virgil is guaranteed to play every minute and is a big threat at set pieces (I reckon he'll score against Everton) meanwhile Lewis will come off the bench for lots of frustrating 1 pointers between now and April.

Most good managers look at potential for future returns over the outcomes of previous matches. Mbeumo is fifth for total points for example but in his current role he gets nowhere near the box.

From what I hear though, he hasn't been playing as forward as he used and therefore hasn't been getting the same level of chances. But it's Ipswich... So much conflicting information! He also is a regular starter. If I had to put money on it, I would probably move to Bowen if I had to. But a hold and save the transfer could be the best option. Sorry, that probably doesn't help. I'd just follow your gut on this.

@@LetsTalkFPL Raul is worth holding onto? SOU(h) has caused you pain all season, you really want to hold that 5.6m striker with ARS(H), LIV(A), SOU(H), CHE(A) when ESR/Iwobi are alternatives... I think Isak + TAA do well in these next few matches. Don't let other users gain those points on you. One good fixture in the next four means probably 1 return in 4 games. Yuck. Imagine staring at Isak, J.Pedro, Rogers, Palmer. Salah, Saka, Mbeumo replacement in 16, TAA, Gabriel, Lewis, some other DEF perhaps Gomez, Raya. It's worth considering. Nice videos as usual.
