Passive was a kick-ass track that Trent didn't want released. It just makes you wonder if there are songs just as good that he won't release. A lot of artists of all backgrounds, often think their work came out just mediocre when others will see it as genius.

Super-groups where you've got 4 famous people in a band or whatever usually suck, but the ones where a few famous musicians who are already known to be mates just decide to make some music often either work well or die off before getting something out.

Musicians influences change throughout the years. Maynard wrote a song about his kid "H.". People's taste in different sounds change. Just because Trent wrote more harsh music when he was younger, doesn't mean he will now. His life has much more order and stability. So of course his music will reflect that. Both Trent and Maynard have grown. So have their musical tastes. Maybe you haters should attempt to grow as well instead of being stuck in the past.
@jamesduff7748

Not everyone's tastes in music change as the artists do. Their opinion of the music stands, regardless of the intentions of the artists. Art is subjective.

God damn it, can people make a criticism of a popular musician(s) these days without that obnoxious, dismissive, and very assholeish word "hater"... constantly being thrown around? It's very annoying and rarely ever applies. You don't get to simply cast some stupid generalizing word and dismiss everybody who dislikes something you enjoy. Also, as "James Duff" said....not everyone's tastes coincide with the change of a stylistic direction of a particular musician/band....which is perfectly fine, and not the least bit "hater" behavior. If you like heavy metal music, you're not going to like it if your favorite metal band starts playing electro pop, are you? Also, no....not every musician has some large scale change in their music, just because their personal lives change. That's another untrue generalization....

Shaun Whelan - Keep in mind that Trent was a Drug Addict during the early years and after getting sober his lyrics have become more mature. It's not that he aged, it's that he grew up. It's amazing that as his music transformed so did his physical self. from pale skinny junkie to healthy and buff.

I think it's interesting that he says that the end result was 7/10. There are now two released tracks that are now confirmed by Maynard that they were once Tapeworm tracks. Passive (released under A Perfect Circle) and Potions (released under Puscifer). Now maybe this is just me, but I think those two songs are absolutely phenomenal, especially Potions. It just makes me wonder what the rest of the unreleased material sounds like.

Them knowing there are sycophants like you out there willing to lap up whatever jizz certain artists put out isn't going to convince them to release anything. Creating is really hard. I have scrapped so many drawings that people would say were very decent works of art. We are our biggest critics. Daina Marie Two perfectionists are perpetually going to be displeased with their own work, which is why Maynard (especially) takes his sweet time writing new material. Unless it's subpar Puscifer stuff, which he spits out faster than a viral loogie. But if Passive, and Potions are any indication of what Tapeworm might have been, while good, neither song is a "10." Tapeworm should ideally have been the best of both bands, but since the planet would have exploded, we may never see anything from them together.

Here's my opinion on the people who say "1/10" on HM. You guys disgust me. Sure, it's not his BEST, but anything NIN releases is amazing. Plus, Trent is just exploring new roads with NIN. Is that so bad? The Beatles explored new road by ditching the all-for-the-girls reputation and went for a more adult target audience, and they're the best rock band in history, as well as most of their fans preferring the later Beatles rather than the earlier. Green Day explored new roads by going from punk-garage band to mainstream and they're one of the biggest selling bands of today. The lesson? Let the man explore. It might turn out what he's known for.

While I agree that Hesitation Marks was a pretty good album The Beatles aren't even close to being the best rock band in history. All their "innovations" are completely phony. The way people say they invented Psychedelic Rock with Sgt. Peppers...lol the Velvet Underground did the same thing in the same year and it was way more ahead of its time. Hell, Piper at the Gates of Dawn was more inspired then that. And all those sounds off Abbey Road...Led Zeppelin did it in the same year once again. Also Green Day is garbage now

"Sure, it's not his BEST, but anything NIN releases is amazing." ...You just can't argue with somebody like yourself. You're prepared to praise any of his efforts regardless of quality, and it disgusts YOU that some people don't like his newer stuff? You sound like less of a fan and more of a groupie.

The difference for me… not that anyone cares… is Maynard has a fucking killer voice!! And can change it along with his writing skills… Trent puts his whole self in which Maynard does too but when you see them live….holy fuck!!! Maynard always puts in an amazing show!! No matter what band he’s preforming but Trent….oh Trent…I almost pass out and have never had that effect before

There are some pretty cool in-studio photos from the Tapeworm sessions out there on the web, if you search for them. Mostly of Trent and Maynard, and various pieces of equipment. Neat stuff

1/10? How can you people consider yourselves fans??? Hesitation marks was great, just because it's not the BEST album of his whole career doesn't mean it should be dismissed like that. Peak NIN was a tunneling through the wormhole of full ego perception that will probably never be imitated again, how could anyone demand that be recreated? How could you wish to see someone shatter themselves again and again just for your entertainment, over and over this gladiator match and your bloated belly's still not full? The point is that he came out of it with something to show for it, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Hesitation marks was honest to that, a reconciliation of the past. Read the fucking lyrics for once. I think with Tool on Hiatus and Trents plans to collaborate again maybe they will find a new inspiration. I don't need another with teeth or the fragile, any addition to that subject and there would be diminishment. He can do whatever the hell he wants because he's already done so much and he's Trent Fucking Reznor, I don't give a shit.

For some of us, that pretentious hero worship wore off, the scales fell away, and we realized that everything since With Teeth has sounded the same, and Hesitation Marks felt like a sad attempt to mix the worst of that era with the worst of Downward Spiral. It felt like NIN doing an repackaged rip off of itself, like a shiny new iPhone with all the same features. Even the title of the album, a reference to failing at suicide, feels like an attempt to cash in on an angst that isn't there any more. Most of us old-school fans have jobs where we can't wear guyliner, and spouses and kids now, and the magic is dead. We'll never lose our respect for Pretty Hate Machine and the Fragile and all those wonderful moments spent reading bad poetry and bragging about how "dark" we were, but shit's over and some of us have minivans now. Your goth is dead and no one cares.

+Nicholas Newell You are entitled to your opinion. I loved every single NIN album until the Fragile. I also loved Ghosts but all the others not except for some songs. Thing is when you have a discography like NIN with so many albums not all of them are gonna be great. he is a human with flaws and you dont have to like everything he releases. But to me just by releasing TDS and TF he became one of my fav bands ever to exist.

“I was taking some time out”...I fucking live the guy. I don’t reason he takes time out. Humans do that. He’s more of a song. I wake up and have breakfast (I don’t cos I’m ill). TR wakes up and another genius song has occurred.

The irony here is that if whatever Tapeworm material that was created were to be released, even by Trent's personal "7/10" estimation, there are plenty of hardcore fans who would see it for what they want to see it as and call it "1,000,000/10" anyway, purely because of it being Trent Reznor and Maynard James Keenan (or, in their minds, Tool altogether, which it wasn't) working together.
