As a former volunteer firefighter from So Cal with some wildland experience, I can tell you that you are spot on. Although it was impossible to make his place 100% "fire safe" he did the basics which allowed firefighters to put up a good fight to save his home. Fire fighters often have to assess whether they can save a home or not, simply based on how well the property owner kept up with maintaining a "defensible space". Thanks for posting this video. It is a great reminder that saving homes begins with preparations long before a fire ever occurs.

Fire fighters really need to be appreciated. They do so much to help keep us safe, and doing what they do isn't what most people would call safe. Both fighting house/other building fire, and fighting forest fires, those men and women do great work. I recently had a forest fire just a few miles from my house. The Fire Department had it taken care of before the wind carried the smoke toward my direction. We didn't even know it was happening until they had already dealt with it. It's nice living out in the wilderness surrounded by state forest, but it does come with it's share of hazards.
@NashCreekIndustries2 жыл бұрын
There’s no “under-appreciation” of firefighters. It’s pretty much universally accepted that they do important work.
@saulekaravirs65852 жыл бұрын
@@NashCreekIndustries Generally yes. At least among reasonable people. Unfortunately, there are many people who don't respect the the job that firefighters do. Having known a volunteer firefighter + EMT, he was often talking about people telling him or his boss off for not putting the fire out faster, or not saving that one thing, or for breaking the houses windows, or for wetting the walls of the house and soaking the insulation in the attic to prevent hidden embers from reigniting the fire. So In my experience, fire fighters really aren't always appreciated, even by people who they are helping. It always amazes me how much disrespect firefighters receive.

I've learned more about western fires the past 5 years watching all my aviation KZbinrs than at any point in my life! I did spend a couple years in Phoenix, and a few months in Livermore, CA, but hard to get concrete and asphalt to burn, so I never saw any in person. Glad Bo's situation didn't end up worse than it was. All told, he fared pretty well I'd say! Glad his house wasn't touched. Some brave guys out there fighting those fires! AMAZING flight! Whomever may live or have property that is in in their control in the places like this video shows here with all the unnecessary overgrown trees and shrubbery on their land. On the grader wheels rims, the wire loops that are left over are most likely carbon steel wire bead bundles, that are encased in the bead toe and bead heel area in each side of the tire, this bead transfers loads and deflection forces to the wheel rim in service and provides a dimensioned, firm, wheel mounting point to anchor the tire carcass.

Instead of a throwable windsock, I wonder how well a smoke system would work for you. Just fly over your landing spot give a couple puffs of smoke, you’ll be able to watch it to see how fast it moves away and in what directions. The slow motion really makes those FPV shots awesome! So what is the set up you got that you like so much? I’ve been thinking about getting the DJI camera and goggles and putting it on a lighter more capable drone than their FPV drone.

The wind sock idea is interesting. It could be something as simple as a biodegradable bag of flower or some kind of dust you can drop from the plane. Something that won’t stick around or cause harm if you choose to not land. It would also need to be something that makes a pretty good cloud on impact so you can judge wind direction and speed etc…
