I have chickens in the USA and you need to lock up the chickens in a very secure coop, windows have a metal screen over the existing screen and a hefty wood door with a lock . Also, have ground cloth around perimeter of chicken run to prevent predator s from digging. I have coyotes, fishercats, bear and linxs. I also have a marine battery with an electric fence that works wonders.

It's the roosters job to save the flock. Lock the chickens up at night or bring them into the house. You should electrify all fence areas. Perhaps prowl lights that turn on when wild animals approach. I used solar prowl lights that shone outwards after Something tore a hole in the chicken wire fence. After that I always locked chickens in at night and let them out in morning.

Honey also has great healing capacity for wounds. Sorry one hen was lost, your Rooster was on the job, hope he heals good.
@gailhitson73408 ай бұрын
Strangely enough whole honey is an incredible healing agent. I used a brand purchased at a local organic store for years in place of sugar. Late one evening while doing yardwork, I was attacked all over my legs by fire ants. It was not only painful, but it made me feel sick, and I couldn't even sleep because of the itching. I got up around midnight and checked around the house for a cream or something soothing to use on it. All I had was a little bit of the honey. So I added some warm water to it and mixed it up. I dabbed it all over the bites several times, and there were a bunch of them. After two or three minutes the itching began to calm down, then the swelling, the redness, and I even started to feel better. The places where the honey was applied on the skin stopped itching completely, and after about 15 - 20 minutes it dried so I could lay down without fear of honey getting on my sheets (may have been the beeswax in the honey). I went to sleep and in the morning the spots were dried up and about 90% gone. Within two days there was no trace of the bites, and it normally takes me two weeks to heal from red ant bites. I also saw a baby seal rescued with a torn up flipper on one side. At the end of a surgery to remove hanging dead tissue, the veterinarian surgeon reaches a glove over into a large jar of golden goop, and slathers it all over the baby seal's exposed flesh prior to bandaging it up. The label on the jar was the same whole honey I used on my ant bites. That veterinarian told the camera man it was the best salve to heal and protect the seal's injury until healing was complete! Whole honey is amazing.

You absolutely need to lock your chickens and other animals up at night. Reinforce the chicken coop with heavier wire and build a heavy duty gate so any predators can't get into the coop. I really don't think the electrified fence will hold back any wild animal if they are hungry enough and want to get in. I am sad about the chicken you lost. Please be very cautious and be on the look out for the predator. Maybe it was a coyote.
@lucymorgan88598 ай бұрын
So sorry about your hen, but your rooster is The Man!!! I think you need a coop with a heavier fence around it, and a wire roof... also make the door stronger with an actual lock! Btw, I just wanted to say, there us a much easier way to get the distressed look on your boards... Just thin your paint with some water, paint it on, and use paper towels to wipe some of it back off, until you get the look you want... alot easier and uses less paint than applying a full coat, then sanding!

You should think about installing some surveillance cameras at the main entrances of your house. Some intrusion detectors with automatic lights as well with an alarm system to scare the animals or the people who are not welcome and a camera in the main part of your garden. If possible keep one dog inside the house . He will normally make an alert in case of a problem. Close all your doors and windows. Keep safe. Bonne soirée. TOP TIP WHEN DOING DRY WALL. Fix dry wall. Use mesh tape on joints. Mud the joints and screws 1st coat. When dry sand and then roller on a quick base coat of WHITE MATT PAINT. When dry it protects the drywall and shows clearly where you need 2nd tiny spots of filler. Do the 2nd filler and sand into the base coat (by hand using a soft foam or rubber sanding block). Then do 2nd white base coat for easy flat walls before you paint the colour. It's much faster to use the white matt base coat to save time on filling and sanding. (20 years exp 🇬🇧.)
@spacemonkey2008 ай бұрын
PS. The trick is to not worry too much after the first coat of filler. Just sand it back flat and then paint MATT WHITE on the rough wall. It will show you where you need the small bits of spot filler. Then sand the spots by hand and paint 2nd coat of MATT WHITE to get a perfect flat wall. Add the final colour whenever you like.👍

@craftymamakh15638 ай бұрын
Missing the prime step. Priming is important. It is the glue between the paint and the wall. Don't trust the "prime and paint" paints, they are not what they claim. I used to work for a paint company, that product is just for marketing. @spacemonkey200
@ontheroadwithyode3908 ай бұрын
Big difference between UK technics and Canadian. The way you do it is the way a non professional weekend warrior would do drywall. If Mr. or Mrs. DIY leaves high spots and then paints them it's more difficult to sand them out covered in paint.

The bubbles are pushing the tape out because there was not enough moisture. Start mixing a little water in with the mud, and also if you are using paper tape, soak it in a pan of water before applying it. That might help.

That's what I used to do as a professional home painter and drywaller. We had a long skinny pan with a roll holder that we ran the roll of paper tape on, and we'd run it through the water as we applied it to the wall with the mud.

Paper tape works just fine. You need to have a layer of mud under it to glue it to the drywall. The fiberglass tape works as well but is more expensive. It's a matter of building experience. Also, you can cut the tape by holding the mud knife against the end and tear the tape against the edge of the knife.

On the drywall tape bubbles, taking long to spread the mud and get the tape onto the wet mud. Then remove as much mud as possible with the fewest strokes as possible. Then when it’s dry, lightly scrape the small ridges left from the previous day and then use the next size drywall knife, don’t sand at all. Don’t try to get it perfect, just covered and leave the least amount of mud possible, hand sand lightly after dry, for the third coat thin the mud so it’s like mayonnaise and use the widest drywall knife to do the last very thin coat. Hope this helps

Hate to say it but a big cat will jump over that fence. You'll need to make an enclosure around the coop that is fully enclosed in wire galvanized mesh. That way, the chickens can roam out side by day and in the evening and at night they have a enclosure that's safe. Put the electric fence around the enclosure. Unfortunately, the cat will likely come back for all the other animals. Be safe!

When you're playing the tape, first use a 4 inch mud knife to spread the mud evenly along the joint as wide as the knife blade. And then cut the length of tape you need to cover the joint. You must apply the tape with the right side up, the down side of the tape is on the outside of the roll. That's the side you place into the mud. First gently lay the tape into the mud on the joint so that it sticks. Next useing the 4 inch knife bed the tape into the mud with just enough pressure to smooth it down into the mud. Next useing a 6inch knife apply a toping coat of mud over the entire joint as wide as the knife not using a lot of pressure but just enough to lay a smooth coat. Let dry, sand and start next coat useing a 8 inch knife. Finishing coat with a 12 inch knife.

Hey guys when using the paper tape for drywall you need to soak the tape in a bucket of water and ring it out before you put it on muded wall. It will never bubble again. Or you could soak it in really wet drywall compound. Paper tape is way better and stronger than the self adhesive. It makes alot smoother finish too. Cheers!

Wetting the tape before you embed it in the joint compound can eliminate troublesome bubbles that show up after the joint dries.

So glad mommy hen didnt get harmed while on her eggs. Great videography once again! With the rainy season coming up, will you still be able to continue with the woodwork for the walls? Or will you need to take on other projects inside your house? Love from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
