Most are for road and foot crossings but some seemed to be for no reason at all. I expect that all will disappear when the Skyrail viaducts are built.

Thank you so much for the upload tressteleg. This is my home line, it was interesting to see it from this view and how much this section has changed these past 18 months. Overpasses now exist above both Seaford and Skye Rds. And new sidings are being built outside kananook station and all along the line there toward Seaford. And all those concrete sleepers are now fitted obviously. None of the major construction has really began along the actual line yet to remove the crossings between Carrum and Cheltenham but I fully expect that painful inconvenience to begin during 2019 with buses replacing trains becoming more the norm for our line rather than the exception unfortunately.
@tressteleg16 жыл бұрын
Thanks for those details. A while back a friend sent me photos of the viaduct you mentioned but I did not know if any others have been built yet. It also seemed to me that most of the existing storage sidings would disappear as generally there are road crossings near the stations which have them. So your update was useful there. I expect in due course to get further videos from my driver showing the various construction stages and ultimately the completion of each section. I commiserate with you on necessary but pathetic bus replacements you must suffer.

This vid brought back memories, worked at nearly everyone of these stations. Driver is required to give a warning to passengers that a train is approaching, or at a vehicle crossing to warn car drivers that the approaching train has right of way. Where platform and vehicle crossing line up only one blast is given. Also railway land is private land hence fencing and tresspass warnings.
@tressteleg15 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your inside information. It lines up with what we see. As for fencing, the lack of fences in some areas make photography easy, and with apparently negligible incidents between trespassers and trains, you have to wonder my fencing is necessary at all.

Interesting to see the remains of the Aspendale siding buffer stop. I recall Tait trains stabled along there on weekends in the 1980s. Also noticed another leftover buffer stop near the Seaford Rd level crossing. I don't remember a siding there. Thanks for the upload.

I expect that the sky rail project is very likely to remove those relics of the past. In fact I’m not up to date with the project but they may well be gone already.

Again saw the the signalling system in Victoria was different to NSW.Except for the latter part of the trip , there was the green over the red , the three colours were on a bar .Checked out the difference. Near Cheltenham there was evidence of sleeper replacement with concrete ones . There was a continual predestrian crossings and the necessary horn soundings --- At night the neighbours would be pleased. Another query , which someone could somehow enlighten me was ------- i believe in Melbourne there are no guards and the driver has a big mirror to judge the carriages are clear.What is the system here?
@regionaltrainspotter2 жыл бұрын
I get it was 2 years since you posted, but yes, Melbourne trains don't have guards, they used to, but guards were removed from trains from 1994 to 1995, replaced by "Driver Only Operation", or DOO for short. V/Line kept its conductors. Suburban train doors used to be operated by the guard, but after the DOO was finished, the drivers controlled the doors.
@tressteleg12 жыл бұрын
I probably replied at the time. Comments seem to have a fairly short lifespan normally. Nevertheless your information could be helpful to somebody. Personally I was not sure when the guards disappeared, but what you sound said sounds correct, right in the Kennett era.

It's not all bad hats off to Andrews he has done more for PT than any other Premier. If you don't mind me asking can you ask your confidaunt how many more speed restrictions are there currently. Really good to see the overheads been done those old gantries were relics dating back to the early teens and twenty's. Thanks.....!!!!

I doubt speeds will settle down until an area is totally finished so expect that speed restrictions will change fairly often. My driver is rather busy so I don’t contact him unless it is a very urgent matter. I will check out these projects next month and pick up more videos for sharing, hopefully with some finished sections of track.

Firstly, I am not the driver. I usually wait until we pass the same type of train going the other way to tell the viewers what we are riding. Just saying a Siemens or whatever may mean nothing to some people without an image. People who skip through videos watching a few seconds here and there will miss that info.

Judging by where you were stopping at each platform, I'm guessing a 6 car set?
@tressteleg16 жыл бұрын
I was not the lucky driver but it would have been 6 cars. I don’t think 3 car sets are used much. A good indicator is the length of trains coming the other way. Note the hump on the platforms for wheelchairs which the driver has to manage.

If you go to Melbourne you will find that even fairly important stations never have anyone working there. From what I remember Adelaide and Perth are much the same. Sydney and Brisbane fortunately still have train guards and most stations are attended most of the day.

If I had all day, I could watch these videos all day. I think I chose the wrong career. I drive a desk. If the train did not stop at these stations, there wouldn’t be time to lower the gates at the level crossings. Is there a backup plan for that?
@tressteleg15 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately watching my videos does not provide an income stream for me or anyone else. As for express trains, I know that in the past in at least some sections of the Frankston line, the driver or signal box pressed a button somewhere and all the crossings along the section of line modified their procedures and had the booms down well before the train got there instead of just as the train stopped as was usual. I suppose that this still applies.
