I did a season on the locos at Plane Creek in 1994... brings back some memories tho the loco livery was different (sky blue and yellow) and no DH's back then.

That would have been a great experience.

😊👍 In 2015 I got at least some video of all the Qld cane railways. Sarina was probably the best with good cooperation from mill staff at all levels. If you want to see more of these railways, they are all here: Sugar Cane Railways Qld Australia kzbin.info/aero/PLLtOIHp49XND6bcwLgbtsBFKmh_DsS_yl

Wonderful video! Who is the manufacturer of these narrow gauge locomotives? Are they still making these?
@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
The former Clyde Engineering factory in Sydney made most of the 0- 6-0 locomotives which replaced steam from the 1960s. Most of the BO-BO locomotives were made by the E M Baldwin company also in Sydney (nothing to do with Baldwin USA) while some of the larger BO-BO locomotives were converted from diesel hydraulic 3 foot six gauge and standard gauge shunting locomotives. Smaller numbers of other locomotives would also have been construct by different people and generally all would be using imported engines, most if not all from the USA. I presume that small numbers of locomotives are still built as required.

Very beautiful video, very interesting! What is the utility of the visible car in front of the locomotive in 08:25 ? What is the speed-limit on this narrow gauge railroad ? Thank you.
@tressteleg19 жыл бұрын
Jean-François Meysman Thanks for your comments. The car in question is a radio controlled brake van, sometimes just called a van. Cane bins have roller bearings and no brakes, so with longer trains or hills, more braking than the engine can provide is required. They are always at the rear of a loaded train, usually on the rear of empties as well. The highest speed noted is 35km/h but lower speeds are also the limit with some locos, lines or locations. All but one mill, which uses 3' 6" / 1067mm gauge, use 2' or 61cm gauge.

liked video how fast can the cane trains go ?
@tressteleg15 жыл бұрын
I am fairly certain that 40km/h - 25 mph is the fastest allowed anywhere.

do you know if this mill is still operating
@tressteleg1 Жыл бұрын
I believe so. While some mills have closed their crops were sent to adjacent mills so production continued.

Another interesting video of yours - thank-you. Did you count the wagons in that 350 wagon giant train - I only made it 349 - lol, - a little light relief from time to time doesn't hurt I'm sure you will agree.
@tressteleg16 жыл бұрын
Hey Mills traffic office people were very helpful to me and told me when the train will be coming. I tend to think they said 49 bins
@tressteleg16 жыл бұрын
Error.. “ the millnsraff said 350 bins so I presumed that was correct but if somewhere along the way 1 bin was missed then your 349 would be correct. No matter what, it’s a good heavy load.”

Some mills take the cane bins into the fields where they are loaded while on those trailers. Some farms use transporters to take the cut cane to the bins still on the railway.

Ah Sarina, this Small Mackay Suburb could be Anything. I wish it would Move on from Sugar and Coal. There is a Big Shortage of Wood, so some Timber Plantations at Sarina would be Great. I also wish Sarina Valued it's People more, a Lot of Talent going to Waste in Sarina. Not Enough Happiness in Sarina, someone do something about the Happiness Problem.
