I think you've nailed it, Trev was good at thinking outside the square and coming up with his own distinctive designs rather then copying what everyone else has been doing for the last 100+ years.

Running well after it finally cleared its throat .I never did get one of his engines due to the fact that he took offence to a reasonable question from me .

Lots of metal in Trev's engines that takes a while to warm up. What I didn't show on the video was that the condensate bin was 3/4 full by the time it was ready to start running.
